Hey no sweat, it's a local thang. When you see bachelorette parties come up from southern Alabama to limo down the bright lights on Broadway and try their luck with the local single male law student population, you'll understand part of why it got the name. But, continue... just remember I sweep down whenever y'all start namedropping us.

What is the prevailing tooth/bachelorette ratio for these here parties?

For that matter, what is the pound/bachelorette ratio?

Niiiice list Esc! I think it would be particularly kick ass to have Powe for Con Law. I bought The Supreme Court and The American Elite a couple of months ago based on a summary of it I read in The Atlantic::whatatool::...

Still, it was a great read and I remember being very impressed when I flipped to the back flap and read the brief bio on Lucas A. Powe Jr.

Add that to the Jim Gaffigan special I watched on Comedy Central last nite, which was filmed in Austin and I must say, Austin and UT are the shite!

Dammmn, I just looked up his profile and now I REALLY want Section 1.

Who decides on which students go to which sections, anyway? And are they easily swayed by begging and groveling?

Or is it completely random?

Esc, As far as I can tell it's completely random, but if anyone finds out who I should sweet talk for section 2, let me know.

davidin, Sam Riley's call was just a courtesy call. He said they had received my LOI and wanted to make sure I was still set to come and see if I had any questions. I asked when we'd hear on class schedules and he said around the first week of August. I hadn't heard from him since he called to say I was accepted. When I saw the number, which I recognized as a UT number, I hoped he was calling to say more money had opened up. No luck. I thought they were probably calling everybody just to make sure no plans have changed, but if no one else got a call...

I'd be more than willing to take that risk. His grade distribution from previous semesters didn't seem that out of the normal.

Unfortuntely I am not anonymous so I am going to refrain from continuing this senseless banter, in which the poor bachelorette parties of the southern U.S. have been caught in the crossfire. For the record, I did have a really good (albeit inappropriate) response.

Hi all,

Sorry to jump in, but I just decided to attend UT (faxed in my LOI yesterday!).

Is anyone still looking for a roommate? I'm looking at 2-2 condos in the north campus area near the law school. I'm a 24/f (don't mind sharing with a girl or guy) from the east coast...pretty neat, clean, likes sports/outdoor activities, studious (doing well 1L is definitely my top priority!), but still likes to relax/hang out with friends.

Looking forward to meeting all of you in August!

I'm a little ignorant about curriculum structure. How does this section system work? If you're in section 1, you study crim.law, con law, and torts first semester, and then civpro, contracts, and property second semester?

Yes, as well as Legal Research & Writing both semesters and an elective in the 2nd.

Hmm, aren't civpro, contracts, and property considered the most difficult 1st year courses? Sections 1 and 3 bunch them up together. Sounds like a bit of a disadvantage compared to sections 1 and 4, especially if you have to take them in second semester w/ that elective, no?

I think they're the most unfamiliar, not the most difficult. No 1L course is a walk in the park. Not even ConLaw

. To an extent, it depends on the prof. I have 2L friends who loved CivPro and Property; for them, both courses were easier than ConLaw and Torts.

I think this is a matter of opinion. The only reason con law is considered "easy" is because everyone has some background in it due to required government courses that discuss the constitution. If you have had a job where you, say, work on contracts, you will probably already be more familiar with the subject matter than other students. Personally, I did an in-depth study of contracts and intellectual property in grad school (from the perspective of a publisher, not a lawyer), which makes me feel like I can at least follow along with it better than I could crim law, which I only know about from Law & Order.

Also, my dad (UT class of '78) and my brother (SMU '05) were both shocked by the fact that the schedules looked relatively easy to them. They said that they took a lot more courses for the full year (property, torts, and con law were some examples, though I don't remember which took what). My brother also said that his LR & LW met for quite a few hours during the week (I think he said 5, but that seems like a lot). It looks like ours is only one.
