Based on Yelp reviews, Sleep City (http://www.yelp.com/biz/sleep-city-chicago) sounds very good and, at the very least, comparable to Value City. Anyone have any experience with them?

And, for you Ikea people, are you all building everything yourselves?

I am supposed to move into a university apartment the middle of next month but am starting to get really worried about the size of the apartment and other features that it is really lacking. can anyone living in a university apartment answer a few questions for me?? I would really REALLY appreciate it!

I did build it all, and it's quite simple. No pieces missing, elegant design, just requires some patience and attention. Although one piece of furniture required a drill, and sometimes you need a screwdriver or a hammer, which you won't know you need until you purchase it.

I'll be living in the Shelbyrne so I might be able to answer a few questions. I was originally assigned the Max Mason and went down to take a look at it, but wasn't a big fan. You also might want to direct some questions towards Yointer. I know she lived in university apartments last year, is doing so again this year, and was very helpful when I had questions.

Also, I'm moving tomorrow and would love to meet up with anyone.

Has anybody living in the Algonquin moved in yet? I'm trying to figure out what the process is for moving in and getting furniture delivered and the leasing office hasn't been very helpful. They make you reserve the elevator in two hour windows with advance notice but I know of no furniture company that will give you more than a vague approximation of the day it will be delivered and at most give you a four hour window of when it will come on the night before! Please help!

Well that's not what the people in the office say. They insist that you need a reservation for your two-hour window. I think they give you the key when it's your time or something.

Ok, I live here, I moved in recently, here is the scoop:

You should reserve the service elevator, but it doesn't really matter. That being said, ppl were moving stuff on it during our reserved window and that was just that. I mean, if there are ppl with heavy things to move, they are going to use the elevator too. Moreover, the service elevator gets use for non-service things all the time. I take it every week to do my laundry, because it goes all the way down to the basement. Also, sometimes I take it just because it's next to the garbage chute and I don't feel like walking the five seconds back to the normal elevator.

If you or anyone is moving in and needs help, let me know. PM me or something and let me know when you'll be here, I'll gladly try to come meet you and lend a hand.

Yeah, I would go ahead and try to reserve it, but if you don't make their two hour window the elevator does not turn off. I am out of town for the next week and half, but if you are still moving when I get back let me know and I will gladly come down and give you hand. You should also know that the service elevator is not really that big. I think the door is about the same size as a normal elevator door.

Just moved in to my apartment in Regents: I am officially done being a nomad this summer.

I'm currently sitting in Regents cup (the new cafe on the lobby floor), I'll probably be here for the next hour or so if anyone wants to join me!

I should make a note about my map in the guide... the bus routes *should* be right, but a few of the times when I clicked the link to check on it google maps had a tendency to put certain routes wrong, though I'm not sure why that happened. I'll try to fix it if I see it again, but at least until you ride the bus a few times don't take everything as gospel. If the route is off it's off by only a block so you shouldn't be too bad...

Also, if you haven't yet had the experience of catching and riding a CTA bus you should know that all CTA stops will have, at minimum, a blue sign telling you which buses stop there and at which times. A lot of them have those typical bus shelter thingies too. If you're standing on a corner that my map tells you is a CTA stop and there is no CTA sign, then the map probably went all screwy again...

Regarding mattresses, I just got a phenomenal memory foam queen size today from Back to Bed and I strongly recommend them. There are a bunch of locations; the closest to Hyde Park is in the South Loop at 500 W Roosevelt.

Negotiation/bartering is essential because they mark the prices up and hope you'll pay sticker price. Play hardball and you'll be rewarded. There's a sale on for Labor Day. I brought my mom along to play good cop / bad cop. We got a $2200 mattress for around $1750 including taxes, delivery and all the various accoutrements (mattress cover, box spring, bed frame). It was delivered and installed in my apartment less than 24 hours later. It's f***ing AMAZING.

They definitely have higher end stuff there compared to the other places mentioned, but I doubt anyone would argue that getting consistently good sleep is a good idea, especially in law school. We did some comparison shopping and B2B prices were a good 30-40% less than at comparable mattress stores and department stores (Macy's, Carson's, etc.).

Also, I will be making the jaunt out to IKEA relatively soon, probably this coming Saturday or Sunday. If someone wants to tag along, PM me. I have a Honda CRV, so I've got room to haul stuff. I won't be buying anything that large myself, so I can probably transport larger stuff like dressers, bookshelves, etc.

I'm currently buying a new laptop and trying to decide between an 8-hr battery Acer and a 4-hr (but much cuter) Lenovo. They are the same price. Normally practicality trumps in my decisions, but if there are plugs everywhere then battery life is irrelevant, and I'm gonna go for the Lenovo. Thanks in advance!

Get the Lenovo. I have one and can vouch for the build quality. The keyboards in the Thinkpad series are better than any other laptop I have seen so far.

Unless you are actively trying to avoid power outlets or flying from Seattle to Miami, you will probably never need battery life greater than 4 hours.
