Hi guys! So much going on in the forum-I've been so busy with work I haven't gotten a chance to read the board in over a week!

>Thanks to zeetraveler for posting the health insurance info!

>To Sheltron-YAY!!!! I am so excited to go to school with you this fall!

>Spike-I will do my best to cook you some "delicious" Mexican food with what they have available at Wegman's!
Also, I'm learning how to cook Belgian waffles and other good breakfast things so maybe we can have Sunday brunches or something!

I'm am SO excited about Cornell, Ithaca, my apartment, my future classmates, etc.

Hope to see you guys there on the 17th!!! :D

I got it today. Is everyone invited? or they just select a few? The wording of the letter is kind of funky.

I got the impression that it was only for "diversity" students...but I'm just glad for the stipend...life saver (even if it is minuscule)
I'm curious to see whether they include non-trads too.

So this morning I found a house in Fall Creek, just below the falls and less than a mile from the law school. I'm amazed at how laid back Ithaca can be - no deposit, no last month's rent, no credit check - a handshake and it was done. The neighborhood is mostly families, grad students and professors. No visible UG housing. It's not as large a house as we wanted, but it'll do for the year. We move in June 28th.

I got it, but I don't think I'm going. My last day of work is August 14 and even though I'm only two hours from Cornell, I want my time off.

YAY!! Congrats MBW!

I remember looking at the fall creek neighborhood 'cause I wanted a quiet place to study. I liked the quiet, and the houses, and did I mention the quiet? Compared to Collegetown, Fall Creek might as well be a church. But it was just TOO family oriented, and difficult to commute from (how are you getting to the law school by the way?), for myself I'm much happier in lower collegetown.

Yeah, I kind of figured the "stipend" was more of a "bribe." There are a lot of people working until close to the beginning of the semester, and it's kind of hard to convince you guys NOT to take a mini-break if you can get it.

I plan on going for the orientation program. I haven't been able to find a job for the summer, and at this point, I've completely stopped looking. I'm really looking forward to getting there early since this break (I graduated in March) has been too long already.

As far as commuting, I think I'm just walking up the hill - it's only a mile, according to Google maps. I guess I should look where the bus goes - I'm only a block from Lake and I expect one goes up the hill from there, no?

And yes, it probably is too mellow for young'uns like you, Shel. But it'll be great for barbecues. And we have a barn. And the creek. :)

ETA: Just checked the TCAT map and there's a bus that goes up Lake and drops me off at Campus and Central - just a block from the law school. That's certainly sweet.

I just remember that hill being particularly nasty, especially for winter walking. If there's a bus that runs right by you, then you should be fine.

Also, why didn't you mention a barn? That to me is clearly the best part, creek, schmeek, the barn's where it's at ;)

Hey, WAhiker, where is your tar from? I'm going to hazard a guess that it's Stewart, but I'm probably off base.
Close, it's just below the haystack on Mount Si, looking north.

Have you hiked in WA?

Ahhh ok... not really all that close haha 8) . I've done quite a bit of technical climbing the two years I've been out here (Rainier, Baker, Bonanza, Stewart, and Shuksan, to name a few). I've also done some non-technical stuff like Si, Granite, Mailbox, Forgotten, and Silver. The mountains will definitely be missed.

Just scheduled my cable/internet installation. $105 startup/install/1stmonths service fee. They were surprisingly nice. Just know that taxes/fees added up to more than 50% of the "price"

oh, yeah, duh. that might help

Timewarner basic bundle cable + internet. advertised price is 39.95/month, plus taxes it's something like 63/month, the 40 extra is for the "installation." Which is total BS, by the way, this package is so basic there isn't even a cable box. All they need to do is mail me the modem and turn it on from their end...

I can live without TV because I watch everything I really want to see "online." I can never figure out when a show is going to skip a week or whatever so I don't bother with RL TV. The cable is really for Spike (who I'm rooming with) and random brain-dead channel surfing. But their Cable+Internet bundle is the same price as just Internet (although with the taxes added in...), otherwise we would have just played the bunny ears game (meaning I would have installed a window antenna).

Or a TV tuner for your computer ;)

Other25? Are you there? Any chance you could update the list on page one? There are people missing, I think (if you're not on the list could you raise your hand?)

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
