Likely but not definite. My girlfriend has significant veto power. If she really really is against UVA, I'd still choose Boalt.

+1. Just don't do flowers. Once they die, she'll start to remember why she doesn't like VA.

She's pro California. She's from Cali, her family is over there, and this nightmarish Boston winter made us agree to leave the Northeast forever.

But UVA isn't in the Northeast....and I can't speak with authority, but I am pretty sure that a Virginia winter is FAR from a Boston winter.

I agree but a Virginia winter is still worse than a California winter. We'll see if she minds.

Sorry to hear about the matching, Kohinoor. Good luck with the decision. And best wishes wherever you end up (I assume Boalt is not a serious contender anymore).

How did you receive news of your matching scholarship request being denied? When did you send in the request for the matching scholarship?

I was also denied (and am also crossing Berkeley off the list consequently) and I heard today at 6:45 pm central time by email. I sent my request in late March.

Did they provide any reasons for denying you? Is there anyone here who has actually had their request accepted?

No reason was provided, but I have a few thoughts of my own. First, my why Berkeley was a bit lackluster and I knew it at the time. Secondly, my perceived lackluster desire for Berkeley coupled with me submitting a Darrow probably made them think they'd have to offer me a lot or that I didn't care about Berkeley. I don't really know what the reason is, but I am sure that Berkeley is no longer an option (even though it was my first choice going into the process).

What is the point of a "Matching" Scholarship Program if they deny so many people or give partial matching scholarships. Why don't they just drop the whole matching bit, and just treat it like other schools do?

Amy's was accepted.
I am wondering if this is related to the fact that I got zero in grants? They seemed more concerned with matching COA than amounts....no matter the form of aid...
Doesn't make sense. They'd be punishing the people that had demonstrated the greatest need of aid if that was true. Likely, your numbers/softs were good enough that they really want you and for the rest of us, they'd like us to come, but they're not throwing XXX,000 dollars our way just to lock us in.

I got like $4600 in grants, which is hardly a dent in the Berkeley COA. I don't think there is any correlation between grants and matching. I also think I had good enough numbers for them to give me something. They obviously don't feel it necessary to give me money; so I don't find it necessary to attend.

There's definitely correlation between grants and matching. If you've got a significant grant then they are less likely to match. I had a 10K/yr match and a 20K grant, and they wouldn't even consider the match.

That's different. Their goal is to make CoA equal between Berk and whichever school you offer up. Thus, you were dismissed out of hand since your CoA at Berk was in fact already drastically lower. That doesn't really prove a correlation between grants and matching.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
