I really enjoyed the ASD on Thursday night and I'm looking forward to attending the school!
Does anyone know what the parking situation is like on campus? Are spots hard to come by?
Also, are you guys getting laptops? Will you be taking them to class with you? I always took notes by hand, so I'm a little torn. I'm just wondering how necessary a laptop is...

Although I have yet to attend the ASD, parking (or so ive heard) is a pain in the butt. You gotta get there early if you want a spot. period. As for laptops, I will be taking mine everywhere and plan on taking notes on it...It comes down to personal preference really.

Haha, I was wondering why nobody wanted to join. Thanks, see you there.

I went last month and really enjoyed the evening. First they gave us welcome packets with brochures and school info, as well as a short case to read for the mock class. Then we split into groups and had a tour of the school before heading for the class, which was taught by the new Dean of the Law School, Michael Simons, who was announced as the Dean earlier that day. I really enjoyed the class discussion, which lasted about an hour. They had a cocktail hour afterwards, but I didn't stay for that. Overall, it was a very nice open house.

I thought their open house was immensely disappointing. It literally scared me out of considering going there.

May I ask why do you feel this way? What exactly was disappointing? Where are you going instead?

Yeah, why did it scare you? I thought that St. John's had a very welcoming atmosphere, more welcoming than my undergrad alma mater in fact.

Brooklyn, Cardozo, or Ohio.
It's a fine school, I just don't want to go there.
Too tired to write why.
...
The reception speaker kept giving variations on how "at St. John's you'll be in good company."

Maybe being tired @ 7:43 pm shows you aren't a pretty credible source.
SJL has some of the tastiest food being served in it's cafeteria in the tristate area... lol really good waffles.

Hey, is anyone else scared about employment (Big Law) prospects at St. John's?
As August approaches I am becoming more nervous.

At the risk of being called a pessimist elitist doomsayer; according to the NLJ figures 10% of SJU's 2005 grads were able to get a job with an NLJ250 firm, which is a pretty good approximation for biglaw. ITE of course the proportion will be lower, perhaps considerably lower.

Cara Thank you
Although I was offered a full ride at SJU I am thinking about reneging and going to medical school (lol)...I CANNOT wrap my head around not getting what I want (I know, I sound a little spoiled-I’m not). But I attended the ASD and have spoken to several SJU law school students and I am not hearing good things. I do not know if it is because they are bitter about their own prospects and their lack of performance but they are convincing me to not go, I am so terrified, especially considering lawyers are being laid off at unprecedented rates. I am so confused

What did the SJU students say about the school that qualifies as "not good things"? Was it the quality of instruction? The facilities? The social life? The job prospects?

Their answers to my questions seemed to always lead to employment prospects. They said you have to be in the top 10% and make Law Review to have options. Furthermore their body language and lackluster attitude turned me off. I have a few friends who are currently 2L’s at other law schools, and they are always telling me how great their school is and how happy they are, and although the workload is tough everyone is great, blah blah blah. But the students whom I spoke to at SJU were so lackadaisical they started to irritate me. Most of them couldn’t even articulate their first year experience. On the other hand everyone seemed rather content with the facilities and professors, hope that helps Dark Prince. I only spoke to a handful of students.

My schedule is up on UIS!!
The first week is all "introduction to law" lectures before classes start. And the rest of the schedule is up as well. So excited!

I'm also in section B. Haven't had a chance to look up the profs. Bad ratings?

One of them had some pretty bad reviews. The others seem to be good though.
