They have some good places for pretty darn good prices, if you have roommates. Start asking around, facebook surfing and find a roommate. ;)

Last time I looked on there there was like several gorgeous condos with beach views for like 1800 a month 3 bed 2 bad. split over 3 people is $600 a month. That's fantastic or even two people and an office would be 900 and that's not bad either.

Good luck, happy hunting.
Something sounds fishy in that $1800 ad. Do you have the link? If it's legit it sounds great though.
I was saying for example. I just threw something out from my memory and I doubt its still up. I think I might have even exaggerated a bit, the more realistic price was probably more like 2300 for 3 bed 2 bath which is still like $770 a month, not bad at all (of course this doesn't include utilities, food, etc.)

But there are some great places that can be found on Craigslist, just dig for it. With the recession there's a lot of opportunities, especially if you're creative. You can even look at like the vacation rental places that rent out monthly. You might have to pay different prices based on peak periods but if you have roommates and are willing to fight for a good place, go for it. With roommates and creativity everything is much more affordable.

:)

Do we have a Pepperdine 2012 facebook group yet? I'd love to go ahead and start looking at housing but am in need of roommate(s). We should get 4 or 5 people together and get something beachfront... :)
I'm nowhere near making a decision yet, but I'll be visiting the school in a couple weeks. If I do accept, I would be so down for that, I saw some ridiculously awesome places on Craigslist. If you go 4+ bedrooms you really get hooked up.

Will you accept old people? I'm old, but still need a place to live if I go to Pepperdine... hehe...

Course, that's assuming I can stand the "foul stench of youth" during my entire tenure. HAHA!!! :D

I'm not sure if that would be the most boring Real World, or actually dramatic. Either everyone with their heads buried in books all the time, or everyone so stressed out their yelling at everyone else. Would be interesting!

Hey everyone!!!!

Looking forward to meeting everyone at the open house. I went to UCLA undergrad so I have a pretty good idea of the area. I'm not 100% committed to Pepperdine yet (still waiting on UCLA) but if I end up there I will be living in Santa Monica and riding my bike or driving up pch to school. You really can find some good deals in Santa Monica/Westside for housing. I would look on Craigslist or even better I would buy westsiderentals. I have always been able to find great places with westside rentals. You can check out the website for free but it is pretty tough to navigate through unless you buy a password. I think it is $40 for 3 months but well worth it.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!!! I hope my information was helpful.

I'd seriously be interested in looking for housing with you guys! I'm kinda old as well (29); hope that would be okay! I'm a bit worried about paying for everything (who isn't?) and splitting housing costs would be awesome.

I know a lot of people are attending ASD and I look forward to meeting you! Would anyone be up to getting together for dinner/drinks on the night before (Thursday?). I have to leave quickly on Friday because I fly out that evening.

BTW, I'm Emily on the facebook group.

Just booked my flight. I'll be there for ASW! Arriving Thurs afternoon and leaving way too early on Sunday. Why don't we just plan something every night? Is anyone staying in LA or moreso around Malibu?

I'm so bummed I'm not gonna be there! I think my dad is going with me to ASD too. It's on his birthday and I felt bad being gone the whole day.

I will be at the next open house and I can't wait to present to Mr. Starr, as a token of my appreciation for admitting me into his university, a t-shirt with the words, in big brown and bubbly font, "My other humidor is Monica Lewinsky."

Hopefully the old dude has a sense of humor.

Where is everyone staying for ASD? I just emailed admissions to see if we could stay with hosts in the law school apts, but I don't see that going over very well. Maybe a hotel in LA? On the beach? Anyone nearby want to put me up for the weekend? :D

I'm staying at my sister's apartment in Burbank (which is a bit of a drive from Pepperdine, but it's free!). I could ask her if she'd mind someone crashing on the couch. :D How many nights are you staying? My sis and I are both flying out Friday evening, so you'd have to find someplace else to stay if you're planning on staying in LA over the weekend.

I am planning to attend the Pepperdine admitted student event on April 3. :-) They admitted me a few weeks ago, and I applied on the last day possible (go figure I am so horrible about procrastination).

I had a high 3.6 and a 163 and I got offered the Dean's Scholarship. And Malibu is such a lovely place it's quite compelling, especially since I'm a so-Cal native and am so over living in Utah for my undergrad...I hate snow!!!!

Modern Use

Today, in the 21st century, the phrases "Christian values" and family values are being used by conservative political groups [2] [3] [4] to describe the following values:
censorship of sexual content, especially in movies and on television
the desirability of laws against induced abortion
sexual abstinence outside of marriage
the desirability of laws against same-sex marriage and support for laws against the acceptance of homosexuality into mainstream society
the desirability of reinstituting faculty-led prayer in taxpayer-funded schools

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_values

THIS is the "Christian Values" that their mission statement is talking about.

The fact that they endorse one of their professors to go on paid commercials and use their law school name to actively campaign FOR proposition 8 (the ban on same-sex marriage) speaks volumes.

If you cannot see this then you are just putting your head in the sand.

In my humble opinion, of course. 8)

It is a Christian school and privately funded, so frankly they have the right to do what they will. It is your choice to apply or not. Though I disagree heartily with Prop 8 and am sure I will have some conservative professors I figure that it can first be a growing experience and second, at least I will be out of Utah!!! You want to talk crazy conservative politics move to Utah....I just finished an internship in the State Legislature (which is part time so the session just ended) and they killed a bill that would have guaranteed fair housing and jobs to the LGBT community. Basically is perfectly legal here to fire or evict someone b/c of sexual orientation....Pepperdine looks like heaven compared to the hatred here...

The whole Prop 8 thing is really starting to get old. People speak in ignorance. Pepperdine did not endorse the professor who spoke in the commercials. In fact, the president of the university sent the following message concerning the issue. For those who are interested in the facts, here it is:

M E M O R A N D U M

TO: University Students and Staff

FROM: Andrew K. Benton
RE: University Neutrality and the 2008 Election
DATE: October 15, 2008

As many of you are aware, a series of political ads on radio and TV has drawn much unwanted attention to Pepperdine. The ads, advocating for Proposition 8, feature one of our professors and lists his affiliation with the University.

I want to convey the following concerning this matter: Pepperdine University remains steadfastly neutral during election periods in all political campaigns, and this includes the debate over Prop 8.

We respect our faculty, staff, and students' right to be involved in the political process; indeed, we encourage engagement in the political process.

The Yes on 8 Campaign is using the Pepperdine name in a manner in which we do not approve. We asked the campaign to separate more clearly their partisan cause from our University's name, but they refused.

We ask all who are affiliated with the University to take care not to implicate the University in their respective political causes.

Finally, we ask our students, faculty, and staff to help clear up misunderstandings with those who may ask concerning Pepperdine's perceived role in a campaign in which it is not involved.

We appreciate your understanding, assistance, and patience during what has been a trying time for many at Pepperdine. I urge you to familiarize yourself with the 2008 candidates and issues, and vote your conscience.

I logged onto wavenet and there is a link at the top for applicant services. i clicked on that and scrolled to the bottom of the new page. there's a "finances" section and i clicked 'make a deposit' and did it that way. just note they do a service charge for all credit cards except visa, and they just don't accept visa at all. so i ended up doing an e-check which is free.

it was the only way i could figure out to make a deposit. assuming i messed up and applied it in the wrong place at least they received a deposit so worst case scenario i can show them that.

hope this helps!

Did anyone get the email with the agenda for the 3rd? It's structured differently than I thought. They are sending us a reading assignment next week to go to an open house? I thought I had a vacation until August?!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
