More on the financial aid bit--- I submitted the FAFSA (minus parent info) since I didn't realize until the mass email was sent out that a married gal who's almost 30 would have to ask her dad for a copy of his tax returns!!!

If I have to count they money my dad makes I'm toast. And for the record, I've not been accepting money from my parents since I graduated college. So should I bother even submitting it? I think I'm still eligible for loans but not aid right? I'm close to just calling with the question since I think extracting the information from my dad will be difficult/impossible....

I was in a very similar situation, so I e-mailed them about it. They told me that, if you're under the age of 30, you have to submit your parents' info on the FAFSA. If you've already submitted it without the parental info (as I did), you have to do a correction. I still haven't managed to get my parents to fork over their tax returns...

Yes, just checked my paperwork, it is $500 due April 15 and $1,000 due on June 1st.

My parents haven't done their tax returns yet either, but when I visited GW last week I met with someone in the fin aid department, and she told me to ask them to send their tax returns from LAST year, and then when they finally get 2008 done to send those along.

My scholarship letter said they were offering a $14,000 housing stipend. They mentioned the Aston as a possible location to stay but made no mention that I had to stay there. It sounds like they gave out different housing awards to different people.

So, GW is giving me NO money to go to their school. I was admitted awhile ago and hoped to get some kind of info, but apparently I'm not cause I haven't received anything except for an email saying there is no more money. But they want us to wait till after the first deposit???? I don't want to put down money on a deposit to hope they throw some money my way BUT I really want to be in D.C.!!! I bet somebody on the WL will end up getting money cause they were able to wait around without paying he deposit but the people who were admitted won't cause we don't want to wait around.

Sorry for the rant, just kinda pissed.

If you were born on or after January 1, 1980 AND you want to apply for need-based aid, you need to have both yours (and spouse's if applicable) and your parents financial info for the FAFSA.

From the Admitted Student's Portal:

Need-Based Grants

If you wish to be considered for a need-based grant, you must submit:

1. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. You may submit your FAFSA online by going to: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you were born on or after January 1, 1980, your parents must complete the parental information section of the FAFSA. The Law School's FAFSA code is E00196.

2. Copies of your (and your spouse’s, if married) federal tax returns for tax years 2007 and 2008 (when available). If you were born on or after January 1, 1980, your parents also must provide copies of their federal tax returns for the tax years 2007 and 2008 (when available).

If you only want to apply for student loans, you only need to provide your info.

Federal Student Loans

If you wish to be considered for federal student loans only, you must submit the FAFSA with your information only. Your parents need not provide any information if you are seeking only federal student loans and do not wish to be considered for a need-based grant.
