I did my reservation by phone and got the confirmation within the hour...
and they found flights within the budget from NYC, which I was amazed at.

Think I can get them to pay for my BART ticket?

yeah...i live in the east bay, and I am sooo tempted to have them expense a bart ticket. if only the emery-go-round would give me a receipt for my free ride, i would expense that too!!

I don't think I made the wrong move, but I've gotta say, Berkeley was absolutely gorgeous. Even amidst the construction which, once cleared up, will make it even more impressive. I loved that place.

yeah...i drove by today and the construction is gross! plus, construction at ucb goes sooo slow...i'd be surprised if half of it is done by the time you graduate!

but with or without construction, it is amazing. the entire campus is absolutely stellar.

Well, folks, it looks like I'm coming to Boalt. Got accepted late last week and had to weigh the W&M (in state + $) or UCB (likely no $). Too good an opportunity to pass even at full price. The new GI Bill will take some of the sting away, but it'll still be expensive.

I'm also very happy that my wife will be coming too. She has a great work situation here in VA, in a new career so I thought she might opt to stay and do the long distance thing. (anybody know good vet hospitals in the area looking for an RVT?)

I'll be coming to ASW for the entire window to start looking at neighborhoods. I grew up in Sonoma County and know the 101 corridor and SF very well, but East Bay? Almost nothing.

I am so psyched right now! See you all there!

I just booked a ticket for admit day! (flying out of Newark. amazed the ticket was within the budget)
It's my first time visiting the area, any suggestions on what to do on saturday?
Also, since I'm arriving late at SFO (flights into Oakland were more expensive), would it be better to book an airport shuttle to get to Boalt? I'm reading the public transportation directions on the school's website, and I have a feeling I'll get lost...
I'm super-excited!!

Depends on how late you get in and where you're staying - you can take BART from the airport, transfer from yellow to red, and travel all the way to the bottom of the Berkeley campus on BART. I would say if you're getting there after 8 or 9 it probably wouldn't be the most enjoyable, but especially if it's daylight and you're staying right near the campus, it wouldn't be too bad. Bay Area public transport is not the most enviable, generally speaking. :)

I'm going to the Giants vs A's game on sat. It's spring training, but if your a baseball fan, you can take BART there. Also, you could just check out downtown Berkeley. It's kind of fun just to walk around on college/telegraph. Also, be sure to head to North Berkeley and try the Cheeseboard pizza (It's fantastic!) There are tons of museums in SF too (although the legion of honor is pretty damn far away. Hope this helps!

how late? from SFO to Boalt on public transit takes a good chunk of time, maybe up to an hour and a half depending on how long you end up waiting for a bus (or you could walk from the downtown berkeley bart, which would take 20-25 minutes).

Did you guys all get itinerary in pdf format? Also, did they state a charge of 31.00 service fee? I was told there wasn't one for those booking through Berkeley, the total before the 31.00 was $349 too. Hm...I might give them a call tomo or something

I sent an email saying I would attend and that I was looking for someone to stay with, but hadn't heard back, other than an automated reply.

I got an email back the day after I emailed them the form requesting somewhere to stay. They said they would sort it out later but that it wouldn't be a problem

Hello everybody, I am new here. Well I got accepted to Boalt about a week ago but still haven't received an information packet. How long does it typically take to get it? Granted I am in Texas but still, I'm just kind of worried. :(

Adrian: It takes a good while to get your package so don't worry if it hasn't arrived yet

Everyone: how long are you planning on visiting for? I play to stay 3/4 days but dont want to impose on other students for that long. I wonder if there's a cheap hotel/hostel nearby

Bobby,
Thanks Man!
Well I am planning on leaving on Thursday and staying until Sunday afternoon because that is the only way I could get my flights cheap enough, so I figure I'll go watch the Giants and the Dodgers play that afternoon since the Dodgers are my team!

flying into SFO on Thursday, leaving Sunday morning.

I will be spending a lot of time at SF Thursday and Saturday. If anyone wants to tag along let me know.

So far we have planned to go to SF Moma, Trolly car museum, Alcatraz, Chinatown, Japan Town, and fisherman's wharf

^ alright, so I wont be at Berk in 2012.

But I saw this post and had to throw out a suggestion: Golden Gate Bakery on Grant Ave in the heart of Chinatown. Get a custard. This place is like Mecca.

I'd be up for dinner on Thursday night and Brunch on Saturday. :)
sure, I'd totally be down for dinner and drinks on Thursday night. Maybe I can drag Formerbruin and lsatbobby to come with us

I never knew Mecca was a Mecca for custard.

I, too, will be coming thursday-sunday. Thanks for the ticket (and the acceptance), UCB!
