Opposite. We didn't even have professors who cold-called our first semester. Every class has a handful of people who talk more, but we really teased them in a good-natured way. There was no one overly obnoxious.Splitt3r wrote:Yeah for sure. I'm kind of torn between the two options. It seems to me that there would be a higher rate of gunners in curriculum B, which is one thing that has me leaning towards A atm. Can anyone who is currently a student confirm/deny this, or at least as best you can only being in one section?

I think that "intellectually curious" is a good way to describe a lot of people in the section. I also encountered very little competitiveness -- we all swapped outlines, etc., and all the previous Section 3-ers who are now 2Ls and 3Ls were great about giving us outlines, notes, advice.SubmarineChaser wrote:Actually dude I sort of got the opposite impression from the ASW. I stayed with a 1L in Curriculum B and met a few of his friends. They were all really laid-back and pretty cool, and they came off as very intellectually curious but definitely not gunners; I think as someone who wants to get into BigLaw I'll be in the minority in Curriculum B.
Did you sit in on any of our classes when you visited? Congrats on choosing Curriculum B! Welcome to "the club."

That's actually really interesting to hear. I figured because Curriculum B is supposedly more work, the people who would be attracted to it are those who are most inclined to be gunnerish, but it seems like that's inaccurate. Damn, this going to be a hard decision...

If you are interested in legal academia and jurisprudence then B track makes the most sense right?

I just took the plunge and chose Curriculum A...felt it was better, at least in my case, to play it safe and take the more traditional route than to experiment with B, no matter how effing interesting it sounds!

How do we select or identify our interest in B?

I made the same choice (not submitted yet, but like 90% sure). I think that the classes and discussions will probably be more interesting in B, but I'd rather miss out on the "extras" than miss minute but important details of the law because my class glossed over it to get to the philosophy and politics of the case.Lawyer2012 wrote:I just took the plunge and chose Curriculum A...felt it was better, at least in my case, to play it safe and take the more traditional route than to experiment with B, no matter how effing interesting it sounds!

but can't you teach yourself the details? that's what I'm thinking. it's the discussion you can't duplicate. shrug.1000bmr wrote:I made the same choice (not submitted yet, but like 90% sure). On your admitted students page, go to the Academics tab and choose Curriculum. At the top should be a link to the short form you have to submit online to pick A or B.sp003k wrote:How do we select or identify our interest in B?

Re: GULC '12
My concern had more to do with studying for exams. While the traditional courses have supplements, guides, and advice that are applicable to most law school curricula, I personally don't feel too comfortable with winging it and figuring out what to do and how to handle exams any more than I already have to for Curriculum A.1000bmr wrote: I made the same choice (not submitted yet, but like 90% sure). That's probably very true. The learning style of Curriculum B sounds much more attractive to me than A, because I always love a good political or philosophical discussion. I just feel more comfortable being held to the traditional standards of the study of law than to face uncertainty.susiecusieq wrote:but can't you teach yourself the details? that's what I'm thinking. it's the discussion you can't duplicate. shrug.

Two days ago here. I'm still trying to catch my breath after looking at the price tag for 48 hours.

Does anyone have any info on whether or not people actually get off the housing waitlist? I finally made a decision between GULC and Vandy yesterday and just submitted my housing application today...

At the early ASW they told us that everyone who wants housing has gotten it in the past...hopefully that applies to housing WL people as well, but they didn't address that specifically. Good luck!BBoy_TigerStyle wrote:Does anyone have any info on whether or not people actually get off the housing waitlist? I also got a double and I also got the housing arrangement I wanted on-campus.
Now to find a way to make the $180,000 debt I'd be jumping into more tolerable...
I also chose B for the curriculum but I don't think I'd be upset with A if I didn't get my first choice.

Re: GULC '12
I was kind of surprised I didn't qualify for a single meaningful scholarship at G-town, particularly since I'm 24 years old (well past the age of qualifying as a dependent) and I have virtually no assets (in terms of saved income, etc) to contribute.
The thought of spending more than $20,000 a year for ten years to pay off my loans isn't enticing, but this is T14 we're talking about, so maybe I'll just have to suck it up.
As for housing: I just recently learned about my accommodations and roommate myself, and I'm pretty sure they'll be making housing decisions through at least mid-June.
