99% sure it will be Penn. Could be Stanford if they also let me in from the waitlist, but I find that to be an exceptionally unlikely proposition.

Also, yes WL, the call was an acceptance. I have a decision to make. Don't know what's gonna happen, Cornell has been very generous, and I feel really comfortable with everyone I've met there.

Congrats! UChi is gonna be tough to pass up. Maybe a thread in "choosing a law school" is in order...sheltron5000 wrote:--LinkRemoved--

FYI, the discount is not that good. It's still much better to buy a mac refurbished if that's what you are looking for.como wrote:I'm hoping mine is at home. I need a new computer bad, and I want to use my Corny discount.

I think I want to do biglaw-ish stuff for a few years with international clients, then move to the state department type gov't stuff.woeisme wrote:What do you want to do and where?sheltron5000 wrote:

Would it be wrong to choose a law school because i already have friends there?

Well, no, you'll be fine at either school so it makes sense to go where you most comfortable. Chicago will definitely put you in a better position for clerkships. Cornell is known to be particularly strong in the international law realm (as vague as that is). It's also somewhat of a biglaw powerhouse. I'd be nothing short of shocked if you weren't able to do [international type biglawish --> gov't] from either school.sheltron5000 wrote:I think I want to do biglaw-ish stuff for a few years with international clients, then move to the state department type gov't stuff.woeisme wrote:What do you want to do and where?sheltron5000 wrote:

So yeah, I truthfully don't think this will matter. I'd worry more about things like money (cost differences - tuition, cost of living, etc) and prestige.
If it were me, I would have chosen Chicago because I'm from there and likely want to end up there. Still, I know at least two people (one from my small section) who were accepted to Chicago off the waitlist last cycle around this time and opted to go for Cornell. Not that that should sway you either way - just thought you'd like to know.

Thanks. More and more I think it comes down to how comfortable I feel. Hyde Park scares me a bit, and I find big cities really isolating... so... ::sigh:: anyway thanks for your thoughts.woeisme wrote:Well, no, you'll be fine at either school so it makes sense to go where you most comfortable. i think that chicago would open doors in big law that cornell wouldn't. that being said, go with the school that will make you happier in the long run.

It's the long run part that makes it hard. There's no question in my mind that Cornell will make me happier in the short term.paraducks wrote:i think that chicago would open doors in big law that cornell wouldn't. that being said, go with the school that will make you happier in the long run.

Well, I'd think that the latter heavily influences the former.sheltron5000 wrote:It's the long run part that makes it hard. Really? Why? I think biglaw is probably the one area they have the most parity in.paraducks wrote:i think that chicago would open doors in big law that cornell wouldn't. that being said, go with the school that will make you happier in the long run.

I think I agree with you on that, the biggest difference is how deeply into the class high level biglaw will go.
On the other hand, Cornell has been very generous, and their LRAP is much more flexible than Chicago's (and I think better all around). Which opens more opportunities for gov't and public interest work.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
