Nope nothing about bugs, just poor management and thin walls.
Not going to lie the thin walls might get to me, anyone know a good place to study other than the law school library?

Looks like Professor Cannon will be taking a leave of absence as he was just appointed by Obama to be the #2 at the EPA.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Thanks! Did you also say you checked out the Jefferson Ridge? How did those compare to Woodlands? I've been out working for 7 years, so the idea of a "dorm-like" atmosphere like at the Ivy worries me...but the cost for the nicer ones worries me as well...especially if I don't have a roommate, and I haven't had one of those for 6 years...limegreen wrote:
I'm renting. It's hard to tell by their website, but you can rent. I toured the place last week, it really is as good as it seems in the picture.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Jefferson Ridge and Woodlands are very similar in terms of quality but I think it really depends on what you're looking for. This is all from memory, so if it's not entirely accurate I apologize in advance- I went to 5+ places that day so they kind of run together.
Jefferson Ridge is literally right next to the Woodlands. You can see one from the other, so the difference in distance to school is negligible. Jefferson Ridge seemed much bigger than the Woodlands in terms of size of the property and in terms of number of units. At the Woodlands you have the option of a Townhouse Floorplan (2 stories) with 2 or 3 bedrooms or a Flat Floorplan with 2 bedrooms. At Jefferson Ridge all of the units are one story apartments and they have 1-3 bedrooms and all different sizes in between, some with dens and some without. The views did seem a little better in some of the units there than the Woodlands, but that isn't really a top priority for me, and I figured the chance of getting one of those units was probably slim anyway. The kitchens in the Woodlands are nicer, they have granite counter tops and stainless appliances and the two units I saw at Jefferson Ridge had neither. There seemed to be less closet space in the Woodlands, but in some of the units of Jefferson Ridge the closets have mirrored sliding glass doors which bothers me for some reason. I don't remember anything about amenities at Jefferson Ridge but they're probably listed on the website. I saw the gym and it seemed nice enough, the pool seemed smaller than the one next door. The Woodlands has a really nice club house, a three tier cascading poor, a fire pit, volleyball court, basketball court, a tennis court, a tanning bed, a nice gym, and a movie theater (my favorite part even though I probably won't use it) and probably some other stuff I'm leaving out. The Woodlands rent includes cable/internetand Jefferson Ridge includes cable/internet and water.
I visited with my BF and my Mom, and to be fair, my Mom (who is a builder) liked Jefferson Ridge better for no apparent reason. My BF and I liked the Woodlands much better, but neither of us had a real reason other than it just seemed a little nicer and the kitchens were better, which is important to both of us. Also, depending on which unit you want, after we figured in utilities the price difference wasn't significant so we went with our gut.
Hope this helps, maybe we'll be neighbors next year!

Haha, thanks everyone. I think I may have gone a little overboard on the apartment researching, but I'm happy to help nonetheless.

And I figured most people on here just refer to me as "JS" or "js" anyway.

Limegreen, even though I live here, I've never visited Jefferson Ridge or the Woodlands. Those descriptions were great. You've got me thinking about moving out there since I am having some issues with my current property manager.

Btw, thanks Limegreen, you've been really helpful with this stuff, I think I'm just going to stick with Ivy for this year.
