Are all of you super-high LSAT scorers? It seemed like that was the case for at least one person...
175. idk if that's super-high, but based on my family's financial situation I shouldn't qualify for need-based aid, so 40K from Columbia was a nice surprise, especially after Chicago gave me nothing.

Just got my package... $80k over three years. WAY MORE THAN I WAS EXPECTING! I still don't know if I can do it, though.

Haha, well for you, you have Hamilton Scholar stats, so that doesn't surprise me much...
But still, an incredibly nice package! Congrats!
P.S. Yes you should -- attend CLS!!

Thanks. Is the grant reduced the last year because they expect we will have high paying summer jobs?

On LSN there's a 4.4 index person who got 50k, so just cause you don't have Hamilton numbers, don't despair.

Edit: I think the grant is reduced for that reason. But, I'd rather have it frontloaded anyway because you save on interest.

That is really surprising in light of the grants that so many others have received.
Sorry about that

In March, after I got offers from Michigan, Duke, and Cornell, I sent them a letter (e-mail) containing all of the offers (pdf) and wrote that I would need for them to make a similar offer if I was to attend. I also sent them NYU's offer when it came a few weeks ago.
They were really nice in their e-mail response and said that, although they don't match, it would be put into my file. When I got my finaid offer, there was a hand written response saying that they had taken my other offers into consideration and that they hoped I would join them next year.
ditto.
HugerThanSoup, Frank and anybody else that received this response, so did they "match" the awards? How big was a gap between Mich/Duke/Cornell offers and Columbia's? I have an offer from a school but it's not considered on par with Columbia so I didn't even bother telling them about it..
I have a low offer from Chicago. Columbia almost matched the offer. It wasn't a lot, but I was thinking I would get nothing. I am above the 75% for GPA, but about average for the LSAT. They didn't match the other offers I have from other schools.
Hmm, maybe it is still significantly need-based then? Or maybe they take into account our softs more than we think?

Yeah, the financial aid officer at the ASW said they give you more during the 1st and 2nd yr to minimize interests. Congrats on 80K! That's like a Butler...

I got an insane amount of money for some reason I can't fathom. Have hope; I'm a 4.4.

same here, above 75% GPA but average LSAT, i just got my fin aid letter today and CLS made me a low offer, well, at least this is better than NYU's big fat 0...
i gave them my michigan offer a month ago, but i didn't receive any handwritten note that they have taken it into consideration.....

So bummed. I got nothing in my package. So confused, I was certain I would qualify for need-based aid.
I'm a 4.4 with offers from chi and nyu. Was really set on Columbia but no I'm having a hard time justifying passing up those other offers.

Did you tell CLS about these offers?

Yep, they e-mailed about 40 minutes ago - had instructions for getting an e-mail address, and various reminders about sending them transcripts, deans certificates, etc.

Hey sorry question back to about financial aid packages...
When did the people who received theirs already fax in the 2008 tax forms (for parents) and such? My mom JUST faxed hers in last night because she just got them back, but she had estimated them in my needaccess application. I'm hoping to use NYU's 25K as leverage, so I sent the fin. aid department an email asking for them to notify me of my offer as soon as posisble since NYU's scholarship deadline is next Monday.
Anyone send in tax forms really late and already hear back?
