Anyone else living in a 1BR? hoping I won't be too socially isolated due to this.

I'm living in a 1BR in Jefferson Ridge. My bf just decided this week to move with me, so I suppose I'm not technically living alone. One reason I liked UVA so much was that it seems to foster friendships and community. Thus, as I'm reading law School Confidential and this Penn guy is telling how I might see other people when I work out at the gym or grab coffee with a classmate but the other 23 hours of my day will be spent in solitude, I just scoff at him.

I think that as long as you make an effort, you will have no trouble not being socially isolated!

I'm in an Ivy 1BR... I feel like most of the people I've talked to so far have a roommate so now I'm kind of regretting not doing the roomie thing. I've never NOT had a roommate so I guess this will be an interesting change, lol.

I'm living alone too. I've always had roommates and am welcoming the change. It will be weird, but the bf is coming up in a year so hopefully if I hate it I will have an out. I did just buy a four-seat dining table...I don't plan on spending much time alone lol.

I always picture a large swarm of grasshoppers coming to devour my crops (because for some reason I become a farmer when you're around).

Whenever I've seen "the sealocaust," I've always envisioned some form of ocean locusts swarming above the oceans and attacking ships.

Problem. I'll be arriving in Charlottesville on July 27th and my cube - which will contain my bed - arrives on the 28th.

Possible solutions?

(1) Sleep on the floor of my condo using my sweet new backpack as a pillow
(2) Make friends at a frat house, bar, or other drinking establishment and pass out somewhere TBD that night
(3) Sleep on a fellow c/o 2012er's couch
(4) Hotel party for one - this would eat up half the money I'm saving by having the cube come a day later

i'm even more excited to get to charlottesville now! at least it will be upbeat and not some slow depressing music. the neighbors might complain though, but we already know half of them.

we should start planning some sort of get together for the first week of August, since most of us will be there by then.

All of this talk about get togethers is bittersweet for me. After being here for a month I finally got a job but they have me working double the number of hours I wanted (around 35 when I said 15-25 was optimal) and I am not really sure how to handle it. I don't want to work 35 hours until orientation starts because I have a lot of stuff I want to do before then including coming to all of these get togethers!

It's just one night... pass out on a blanket or something on your floor. Just drink heavily before bed. Won't you have at least one pillow?
