When are you guys planning to move in? Anyone living in York Crown?

Haven't thought about living situation...still not sure if YLS is where I'm going. But the "when" is a good question and I'd like to hear people's initial thoughts assuming we begin in early september.


I've received my HLS financial aid award--this is reassuring because I now know Yale should have all my documentation. Just waiting on the award....when do you guys think I should send a follow up email? I'm thinking never...but I'm willing to let people change my mind.

I am sure they'll get most out by April. I think you should ask them specifically about your situation if you have a deadline coming up.

There were plenty of kids at Harvard this weekend who were discussing housing and were perfectly OK with paying, for a 1BR apartment, more money monthly than my family back home pays for our HOUSE. Scary stuff.

Honestly, I think this has a lot more to do with whether one is accustomed to living in cities. I was paying $1300/month off of a 42k salary when I first moved to my current city. I was in absolute shock at the housing prices, but most people in the city thought I was getting a great deal. Sticker shock wears off, and people just accept it. It doesn't mean that they're wealthy or entitled.

Besides, the dorms are pretty darn unappealing if you've been living in an apt for a few years, plus I don't think it's unreasonable to choose to live alone. If you're going into private law (and almost everyone is, no matter what they might say at ASW), then you'll be able to afford paying for an apt in Harvard Square.

Living alone is definitely reasonable and ideal in some cases.

Yeah, the open secret is finally revealed. The rumors I heard when I was visiting was that Heather Gerken and either Richard Brooks or Robert Post (for some reason I can't remember which) were both up there as likely selections. Each are odd choices in some respects, but I heard multiple people mention both of their names (Gerken, and either Brooks or Post...). Anyone heard anything about this?

Also, anyone know anything about Kate Stith, the acting dean?

Sweet! I still need to do this... When I spoke to Ms. Barnes while at Yale she said she does everything by email and she expected to get them out by late last week...I would expect them any day now.

It's the hard sell speech - how could you go anywhere elsewhere, Yalies are more successful than every other school, God himself once went to Yale Law, yada yada. Fortunately the students aren't like that!

It was actually laughably audible today in the halls at YLS when Harold's email went out [the text of which magically appeared on ATL literally one minute later]: "The announcement just went out!" I'd say just about everyone knew it was coming (though in my own official betting pool, I had imagined the announcement would have come last week, when we were on spring break...oh well).

Thanks KP and Zabagabe. I guess I'm just getting a little anxious because Harvard's award was extremely generous, and if Yale doesn't come close to matching, it wouldn't make sense for me to go to Yale. Aghh!!


BTW, if anybody else is flying in to Hartford on the 22nd, I would be MORE than happy to split that $45 car ride to New Haven with you. (Can you tell I'm broke?)

Harvard massive admissions/enrollment sure doesn't help their financial package . I got my package a few days ago, super happy about it.

Email or snail mail? I really hope I end up as happy as you guys. I know Harvard says they take into account that you won't be earning a salary while in law school (even if we earned one last year according to tax returns). Does anyone know if Yale does the same?

From the looks of it, Yale assumes we don't earn salary while in LS as well. My package covered the entire expected cost minus my contribution (with lots of loans thrown in there)

Just got mine as well. Has anyone gotten their SLS award yet? Mine was about $8k better per year than Yale, and I'm surprised the difference would be so huge...
