The only scholarship information I can find on their website talks about scholarship applications being handed out after classes start in the fall. But they do make some financial offers with acceptance, right? Anyone know what kind of numbers you'd need to be "recruited"?
I got a scholarship offer 2-3 weeks after my admissions packet arrived.
This.

Edit: I'm not sure what you mean by 'recruited', but if you're looking for an app. fee waiver, they were pretty liberally handing those out at my university's undergraduate law fair.

I don't know about recruiting but they handed me my scholarship letter at the same time as my acceptance letter when I visited the campus.

I imagine if they didn't include your scholarship info, that means you can borrow up to that much more, yes? Models and bottles lifestyle in law school at the expense of Uncle Sam/your financial future, ftw.
haha thanks. I guess I was just hoping I still had the scholarship. Minor freak-out.

I just got my email address set up today. I thought they would send a letter or something explaining how to do it, but no such luck. So I just did a quick Google search and figured it out.

If you go to account.ou.edu you can click on "New User" and enter in your SS# and date of birth to get your OU access ID and figure it all out from there.

Hope this helps!

My FA is totally jacked up. I've been a teacher for the last few years. So, they're basing my aid on that income. HELLO.... I'm going to schoool fulltime now!! Add that to the fact that they still have me as out of state and I've got 0 being offered to help and only loans as my FA. I logged into my account and saw everything. I'm hoping when I get up there next week I can get them to fix it.

I had to get my OUNet ID to be able to see my FA. Also the FA office wouldn't even talk to me without it. What a PITA!!

for the OU id stuff i think you have to do it yourself. I wanted to apply to live at traditions and spent 20 min trying to figure out what my OUnet id was. it turns out you have to go through a long process of putting in your SSN and setting up your account.

And to answer other questions i got my financial aid info and my scholarship all at the same time when i was accepted.

Also, I am from Dallas and i was wondering if anyone knew of fun things to do in Norman?

It did actually! Thanks!!

After I created account, I checked my new OU email address and I had an email about financial aid in it.

And technology gurus, what is the difference between the default email address and alias email address? I tried to set up an alias one but then when I sent an email to it, it got returned.

I thought I didn't have enough info to get my OUNetID, then I realized I was just starting at the wrong place. I submitted my FAFSA info two days ago and received my financial aid information yesterday.

This is my first time taking on student loans, so I'm treading with caution. They've offered me the maximum amount allowable by law in federal subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford loans, which seemingly covers tuition, books, and then some. From my research it seems these are the "safest" loans with the lowest fixed interest rates, so does this mean I don't need to worry about applying for Perkins and PLUS Loans for graduate and professional students? If anyone is knowledgeable about student loans, I would appreciate any advice.

The default email address is your permanent account. It's naming convention is "Firstname.Middleinitial.Lastname-1@ou.edu," while your alias can be whatever you like. It can take a few hours for an alias to take effect, but once it does, the alias works just like your default address. Any email sent to your alias will arrive in your OU Exchange inbox, and outgoing messages will be sent from your alias as well. Give it a day to start working, I started receiving emails to my alias within an hour, but it didn't show up in my outgoing emails until the next day.

So from what I can tell, OU isn't a Direct Loan school. Anyone have any recommendations for a lender for Stafford/GradPlus?

Yeah this sucks, I was really hoping it would be direct. I don't know which lender I'll go with but it definitely won't be SallieMae! http://consumerist.com/5266035/costly-p ... dent-loans

I still haven't accepted my loan because I don't know which lender to choose. Also, I don't think it has processed my "loan counseling" yet.

Any advice on my post before last? Please let me know if you can confirm that OU doesn't do direct loan.

Has anyone heard anything about second deposits? They continually mess up my address so I just want to make sure I haven't missed anything.

For those considering purchasing a laptop...

The OU IT Store itstore.ou.edu has partnership deals with apple, Dell, HP and Lenovo. It might be worth exploring the site, as some of the deals are pretty solid. For example, I found a brand new, unopened white macbook with a 2.0Ghz Dual-core processor, 2G memory and a 120GB harddrive for $750. Through the store, Dell gives you an additional 7% off any current advertised specials, on everything from computers to printers to TVs.

No second deposit is required, per Kathie Madden. You should be receiving a packet in the mail with information about orientation, section assignments and the like. I got mine yesterday.

I accepted my Stafford loans a few days ago, and this morning I read this:
http://consumerist.com/5278637/save-on- ... ans-july-1
What do you make of this? Will we be able to take advantage of this lower interest rate?

I followed the link from the previous article to find this in the fine print:
"Borrowers with loans originated after July 1, 2006 are not eligible for the new lower rate."
I'm having trouble understanding why Stafford loans taken out after 7/1/06 aren't eligible for the supposed 2% rate. Why would you get a 2% rate for consolidating after 7/1/08 but you're stuck at 6.8% if you're just now taking out a loan?

They sent us a packet in May or early June with the different prof's names and times for each section. I matched my online schedule with that one...

If it helps: Section One is Gensler, McCall, Mullins, Richter and Coyne.
