How do you know you have Ferguson?

When I applied for the travel subsidy they responded by saying "We look forward to seeing you on March 25-26", I figured that was good enough for an RSVP. Right?

They sent an e-mail a few days ago with the mock class assignment..You might want to give them a call to make sure.

I got Ferguson for my mock as well... Think I've decided to go to Property with Heller at 9 and maybe hit Constitution and Foreign Affairs after that if I'm not totally fried.

Has anyone received a CUID/PID? I was looking at the info for housing registration and I realized that I don't think I've gotten one...

Has anyone else applied for housing? I just sent mine in - having lived in a one-bedroom for a few years, I'm honestly ready for some roomies and am hoping for a Lionsgate Apt Share. Yay!

I got mine in a housing email a while back. if you ever got an email about housing, it was probably in that. I realized that I didn't say that I wanted law-student specific housing in my application. do you think they'll figure this out, or should i contact the housing people??

Somehow I missed Lionsgate today when I was looking at housing. Can someone tell me how the apartments there compare to the ones on 115th?

I applied for housing like a month ago (was way too excited about it). I was really pleased by the law student-only housing on W 115th though (the apartment shares). The one I saw was fairly big and it seemed like a lot of the bedrooms could fit a full sized bed. In the one I saw the guy had basically moved the twin bed into this guest/dining room the apartment had. Also FWIW, apparently most of the furnished law-student apt are 3-bedrooms.
I also am really excited about this new study abroad thing with Oxford in law and finance! I hope it's finalized by by August so I can see which classes are needed for it and stuff.

I sent mine in two days ago. I requested Lenfest. I cringed at the price and pushed the send button really quickly before I had time to change my mind/think about what a poor financial decision I was making.

Yeah, I think I only met 1 person from TLS..but it was a great time overall. I'm much more at ease about making the decision to attend~~

it was a great time! I really enjoyed talking to all the prospectives & currents I met, and I'm looking forward to August. (I don't know if anyone I met was on TLS, but I'm sure some must have been.)

1) Housing- I didn't really get a chance to check out much of the housing. I stayed with a current student in Lenfest and those apartments are super super nice. Even so, I'm still leaning towards a 3 person apartment share somewhere. I think this holds true pretty much for the undergrad population but the Law school seemed pretty diverse with well rounded folks. Everyone I met was super nice and helpful and willing to answer any questions I had. I got the impression that despite being around 400, each class is pretty close and most people knew each other. I think most anyone would be able to find a crowd that they could run with. The California Society seemed like the best club to join on campus (they had an open tab at the bar we went to..people were doing shots of patron lol). Pretty much any legal interest you have there is a club for. One thing that was shocking was the amount of people I talked to that were interested in PI work. I know its not a representative sample but it seemed like over half the admits I talked to were into that and a good number of current students. To be honest, I felt a little shitty when I said I was definitely interested in Corporate work..I think there are maybe some bitter feelings going on between the two groups. Overall though, it seemed like it wouldnt be a bad group of people to spend a few years with.

3) Campus/Area- I grew up in Cali and not in a big city..So it was quite a change for me as I'd never been to NYC before. Coming from La Guardia on the m60 was a little shocking as we drove along 125th through Harlem. It was amazing to see how quickly the city changes just after a few blocks. Below like 120th or so I don't think I'd have any issues with feeling like the area was unsafe. Walking along broadway/amsterdam was really cool because there are tons of little shops and restaurants to check out and explore. The 10 blocks surrounding the university really had a nice feel to it and it seemed like everyone in the area was probably connected to Columbia somehow. The law school building itself was pretty ugly on the outside as i'm sure you've seen, but on the inside it was actually pretty nice. The lecture halls were newly renovated and the cafe was cool and had balcony seating for when the weather permits. The library is pretty ugly but I didn't really care about that, I study at home so its not a big issue..and the librarians were super nice too!

I even spent some time just walking around the faculty offices and stopped in to chat with some professors and it seemed like they were waiting for people to drop in. The mock class I had was pretty interesting and the classes I sat in on were cool too. The financial aid staff was especially helpful and answered any questions I had.

Hey, so see everyone in New York next year!

It's been great to be able to discuss stuff on TLS as the cycle went on, but now that I've made my decision, it's more annoying than anything else

I never really thought I'd end up at Columbia, but after visiting, I think that despite what I thought about my personal situation, etc., it's the right choice for me

I was unable to make it to the asw's because of work. What did they say about financial aid at the panel?

Hi all -

Just discovered this forum. I'm coming to Columbia next year, and I'm very excited!

Congrats to everybody else going too!

I've been holding off on filling out this housing form forever, because I just don't know what to do. I'm definitely leaning toward Lenfest, but I'm hesitant mainly because I kind of want to live in an apartment with other people. At the same time, I'm slightly worried about being randomly placed with other people, you know? Anybody have any wisdom or advice to share?

Basically the same info you can find on Columbia's admitted students website - although it was nice (somewhat more reassuring) hearing it from someone who works in the FinAid office.

If I remember correctly the presentation was broken down into three sections:
Loans - GradPlus for full $68,000 but at slightly higher interest rate than private loans. $8,500 Subsidized Stafford Loans.
Financial Aid need based awards - The office plans on sending them out beginning this week.
LRAP - Just the nitty gritty details.

They also mentioned that the FinAid office recently lost whomever headed the office, which was kind of scary.
