That sounds great to me. Free parking and furniture? I'm looking at around that much or slightly more and I won't get furniture! I just sent e-mails asking about meetings and will call the week before I go to set-up actual appointments.Lawguru wrote:How would I go about setting up a meeting with the different places? My sister lives in Seville apartments and is moving out since she's getting married. I could have the single with all her furniture and accessories plus free parking for about 560 a month. The apartment is apparently slightly small, but does this sound reasonable?

Haha awesome! On a side note, word is this place has one of the more decent kitchens out of apartments in that price range (mostly because they are the newest).crystalhawkeye wrote:Ah, you went with the fireplace, eh? They told me 3 weeks (or so) after mine was reviewed. That was the 11th (two weeks ago). I'm hoping I'll know before the 15th (MSU's due date).mikeytwoshoes wrote:Anyone receive any response regarding FAFSA aid yet?

Re: Iowa 2012
My friend who used to live there and moved to old gold said he likes this place better, and it has more for less money (I think 500 for his single or something). However, he didn't have a gas fireplace, so perhaps he was in some crappy building. I'll ask him more about it tomorrow. There's no question it's a decent place to live, it's about a half-block or block further than old gold but that's negligible distance.rainmaker614 wrote:Haha awesome! This is the best price you'll get in this area and it's as close as reasonably possible. The law parking lot is right down the street. To my knowledge only Old Gold is closer, and it's only a half-block or block closer, maybe 2-3 extra minutes walk . That is the cheapest rent you'll find in IC for an apartment that size without going on the extreme outskirts of town (basically nowhere or Coralville). The only bad part is the train that stops on the tracks down the street for extended periods, but you can't really get closer without buying a house and you can just hop the thing.Lawguru wrote:How would I go about setting up a meeting with the different places? In a day or so I can get you guys the number for Joe, the landlord at Old Gold, with perhaps listings of available apartments. If I'm lucky he'll let me take pics - my place isn't the neatest and I don't post that stuff online.
Here's the website for Seville:
http://www.barkerapartments.com/seville
Emerald and Westgate apartments are managed by the same company, their website contains links and contact info for each:
http://www.barkerapartments.com/iowacity
For old gold, this is the property managing company (Heritage Property Management), tell them you wanna check out Old Gold and ask for Joe's number if you can:
220 E Market St
Iowa City, IA 52245
(319) 351-8404
The street Seville and Old Gold are on are right by tailgating HQ, so for a few Saturdays each fall, you're going to see complete madness. The further away law parking lot looks like a disaster area for most of Sat (cleaned by Sun usually). School buses, empty booze, keg cups, and trash, also smoking charcoal. It's not that loud at either apartment, but if you walk down the street it's insane. Even the Mennonite church by Old Gold has tailgaters covering the lawn. Generally you can see 2-3 people passed out on the sidewalk or outside gas stations these days.
Lastly, the bottom of the hill by this parking lot is home to a gas station in the chain Kum and Go. They sell t-shirts and lighters, which are prized for those outside Iowa who don't know it exists. To give you an example of the madness, during tailgating they close their bathrooms and erect 3 or so portajohns to minimize the damage and rush.

Re: Iowa 2012
Put a deposit in on an apartment today! It is with Benton Street apartments...a VERY small group of apartments on Benton, about 10 minutes walk from campus. The rent is around 540 including internet, utilities, and water plus some cable channels, which I don't care about. The apartment is pretty damn small, but I don't really need anything bigger. PLUS they were super willing to work with me on my deposit and I only had to put 100 bucks down.
PLUS it is my sister's apartment and she is getting hitched this summer and moving out. She is letting me have her queen bed, a nearly new leather couch, silverware, and plates/bowls...the whole works. Free parking too, which is hard to come buy in IC!!
EDIT: Now that I put a deposit down on an apartment, I guess I should put one down on the law school!!!

And yes, you may want to turn in your seat deposit.

No everyone has been putting it off, myself included.
I just sent mine yesterday. The $ won't be in my account until tomorrow but I figured I was safe sending it anyway.

School spirit ftw!School Songs
On Iowa
On Iowa proudly at the fore
On Iowa on for evermore
Ev'ry loyal son will give
A Rousing toast to you
Ev'ry loyal daughter loves you true
On Iowa with your wealth untold
A heritage to us you did unfold
Love of family, love of friend
Love of country too
Makes us proud for what you stand
Our Dear Old Gold.
Iowa! Iowa!
Iowa! Iowa!
I-O-W-A!
Fight, Iowa, never, never yield
Fight, Iowa, fight right down the field
Get in the game and watch the ball
Be a fighting Man
Hit 'er hard, give Iowa all you can.
Fight, Iowa, you'll be sure to hold
We're with you with the pep
And love of old.
Fight for family, Fight for friend
Fight for country too
But fight hard today and win
For Dear old Gold.
Iowa Fight Song
The word is "Fight! Fight! Fight! for IOWA,
Let every loyal Iowan sing;
The word is "Fight! Fight! Fight! for IOWA,"
Until the walls and rafters ring (Go Hawks!)
Come on and cheer, cheer, cheer, for IOWA
Come on and cheer until you hear the final gun.
The word is "Fight! Fight! Fight! for IOWA,"
Until the game is won.
Alma Mater
Come all alums of Iowa,
And blend your voices true;
Sing praises to our Alma Mater,
As good Hawkeyes do.
Let's keep within our hearts a fire
To magnify her fame;
Bring credit to these noble halls,
Where glory and honor reign.
The day is near when comrades here
Will bid farewell and part;
But each Hawkeye carries on
Thy spirit in his heart.
Oh, Iowa, Iowa, we drink a toast to you;
We pledge our everlasting love
For dear old Iowa U
Alma Mater, Iowa
Roll Along Iowa
Roll along Iowa, Roll down the field,
On to victory!
Roll along Iowa, Don't ever yield,
Always a winner be!
Get that ball, Give your all, For dear Old Gold,
Raise her banner high!
With firm endeavor, Roll on forever,
U of I.
The original last line of Roll Along Iowa was With firm endeavor, Roll on forever, S.U.I. in reference to The University of Iowa's legal name as "The State University of Iowa." It was changed to the current line in the late 1970s.
