It should be on OPUS waiting for your acceptance.
Sorry for being dense, but where exactly in OPUS is it?

I think if you log onto OPUS, on the left hand side there's a Menu bar. Then I believe it's:

Menu Bar > Campus Finances > View Financial Aid (bottom of the list after you open the Campus Finances sub-bar)

damn, caic, you beat me to this. I'm going to post anyway since I just spent a couple of minutes typing!

When you log on OPUS, you should be on the Home page, a.k.a. Student Center. In the main (larger) column you'll see several categories: Academics, Finances, Personal Information, and Admissions. Under the Finances section there is a sub-category for Financial Aid; click on the second link from this sub-category, Emory Financial Aid. The next page directs you to select a year to view, and you should only be able to click on "2010."

The Law Scholarship is the first thing listed on my award summary page, followed by a couple of loans. Note that you have to "accept" any loan amounts that may be listed. If you don't accept, then you don't get your loans. However, I think there's also some form you can fill out and send to the finaid people if you don't want to do it on OPUS.

Also, from the Home page you'll want to glance over to the smaller column on the right and find the section for Holds and Clearances. Usually when there's something you need to do regarding your student account, they'll list it over there until you complete the task.

Thanks guys! But for me when I log on and click View Financial Aid, it says "Inquiry Access Denied." :(

I guess I'll have to contact Admissions about this.

So, OPUS mentions a penalty if we pay after a certain date, which is prior to the financial aid disbursement date (Aug. 18, I think). I'm assuming the late fee does not apply if our tuition is not coming in the form of a personal check. Should I assume that this is correct? Anyone else?
On OPUS look under the Holds and Clearances section. Do you have an item titled "StuFinl-Registration Clearance"? This item shows up for me, and I assume it means that student financial services has cleared my registration balance because my entire tuition payment will come from the law scholarship and loans.
Yup that is correct. I called and they said not to worry about the Registration Bill, and that the loans exceeded tuition so a refund is on the way. Pretty much what you can assume from the message but was just double-checking.
Thanks. That's what I figured, but I thought it was worth getting other peoples' views.

I am another victim of Campus Housing.

Currently I have the option to go to law school abroad, but am committed to Campus Housing for a year's rent. I do not want this to be the deciding factor, but I will be unable to pay a year's rent in Atlanta while supporting myself abroad.

So if anyone wants to make a deal for Campus Housing I am in a three room apartment. Send me a message if anyone is interested. Otherwise, I will by default see you guys at orientation.

Thanks.

Is anyone nervous? I am super nervous! :? I just feel like whenever I tell people I'm starting law school I just get beat down with so much negativity. When I talk to attorneys at my old job (a top notch ATL law firm), they speak so negatively about the profession. When I speak to current law students, I hear nothing but gloom and doom news about the economy, how the environment is cut throat and hostile, and how the investment for most is not profitable in the end. Etc etc etc. Everyone keeps asking me if I'm excited to start, but it is kind of hard to be happy excited instead of nervous excited just because of all of the negative information always being thrown my way about law school...

Same here. My father's glued to law.com news updates, so every time another firm lays attorneys off or cancels its summer internship, my father calls me, heaves a long sigh, and preaches apocalypse all over again. Now as long as we don't back-stab each other obsessively, at least it'll be 3 years of passive depression.

I was walking around campus this evening, showing some of my friends who were visiting me around and I was surprised to find the building unlocked with 10-15 law students studying inside and in the plaza... on a Sunday evening in the summer!

They were probably recent grads studying for the bar. I think the bar starts today or tomorrow. The law school has had bar bri classes and tons of grads studying there for the summer.

Makes sense... I had a suspicion that was it. I just found it both shocking and amusing, since it showed the truth in the common saying that the law school practically becomes your second home because you spend so much time there. Thanks. :)

umm

has anyone done the summer reading? which books, all 4?

i browsed through law 101 at barnes and noble today, and calculated that i had about 2 more weeks of freedom, and i'm really wondering if it would be time well spent to actually do the summer reading. i figured it's more like "good to know!" stuff, as opposed to "will be tested on this!" information. but just wanted to hear other ppl's thoughts. :|

in short, i want to be a student when school starts, and to be a NON-student when school is out... but at the same time, dont want to regret not doing the reading. random fyi: i didn't do the reading for college either (lol the pattern)

Well booker, if it helps I'll only be able to read Law 101 and I just finished Creative Lawyer. I'm overseas and those were the only ones I could friends to bring for me without paying crazy shipping costs. I'm trying to convince myself I'll be alright since I read Law School Confidential and Getting to Maybe.
