Haha that was exactly my first thought, too. I couldn't tell if he was joking or if people have actually worried about it being graded. I read that to my coworker and she suggested they include it in our future GPAs

don't stress over the case the mock class is just for fun, so they won't be cold-calling, pouncing on you, or grilling you just yet. If you don't read it, no one will know--there's always someone who read it, thinks they know something, and will play along with the prof.

They seem a bit pricey, but I don't know that much about the Berkeley housing market, so perhaps that's a good deal.

Does anyone know what sort of ranges should be thinking about in terms of pricing, and if the University has some sort of mechanism for helping you find a potential roommate?

Unfortunately yes. Then again, so are 99% of Berkeley students. Then again, this just further supports the well-accepted notion that Berkeley students are Stanford rejects.

I just can't determine if it's worth the price difference (I think I'd be ok with craiglisting-it for a cheaper place). When I spoke to a 2L, she explained that while Manville was ok, Ida Louis Jackson was right next to the frat houses (which can be extremely loud late at night). She said two of her friends moved in and couldn't wait to move out b/c it was just too loud.

Right, but did you mean literally 2 beds in a single bedroom? That's what $700/mo buys you. Or did you mean 2 people sharing a 2 bdr? If the former, you likely won't find my LS takers and will be stuck with UGs (probably sophomores).

I'm probably going to have to commute if I decide on Boalt (story of my life). Luckily, I have a ton of friends in the area that can help me. If anyone wants advice, I could ask them for your specific situations, too.

Anyone know what campus parking is like for law students? (I am assuming expensive, but is a pass attainable?)

You can get permits and there's a new garage (underhill) about 2 blocks from the ls.

And let's not underestimate the walks/bike rides. I hear in some places the hills are killers!

No... they're not that bad. Berkeley hills don't have many houses. Most of Berkeley is a slight incline toward the hills and away from the bay. With some notable exceptions, I've found Berkeley a pretty nice town to walk around in... especially around the campus.

I know prices have probably gone up but it can't be that bad. When I did my last housing search in berkeley (3 years ago) I ended up in a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment for $1700 and that was a block away from the north side of campus. The stuff I was looking at ran from $1400 (pretty small 1 BR with a living room converted to a BR, also a common option in Berkeley) to $2000. $600 is pretty tight but I'm pretty confident you can find something between $700-$1000 for your own room in an apartment. If I end up coming I will most likely be doing that.

Also, craigslist has a lot more options as it gets closer to the end of the semester so that might explain the dearth of cheap options when you look right now. You aren't on campus right now are you sumdooder?

Looks like finding a decent place within walking/biking distance from the LS and the BART station (my requirements) is going to require at least around a week of on-site exploration. Dang. I just hope they will compensate for all this (extremely high COL) by handing out decent schollies and/or need based aid.

Talking about Finaid, when do we hear from them again? Was it by the first week of April or so if we submitted the forms by March 2nd or something? Sticker right now (including their approximate COL) seems to be over $70K/year for nonresidents. And I think their COL estimate is only for 9 months. It just doesn't add up otherwise. That kinda money scares the hell out of me. Even when there's a Berkeley Law degree at the end of the line.

I'm kicking myself. I didn't know about any of the special events and booked my tickets to get me in and out as soon as possible. Any thoughts on how flexible the travel agency would be with getting me in a bit earlier and out a bit later? Also, I'm started to get really excited! Here's to hoping Berk makes me a decent scholly offer.

Same here!!! I am leaving early on Saturday, to get home quickly to my family. UGH!!!!

Edit: I'm pretty sure they're not too flexible. When I booked my flights, the woman kept asking if I was sure, because any changes would result in fees. But it's worth a try!

I had a similar situation. I was arriving late Thursday night, but when I found out about the diversity dinner, I changed my flight with the agency. They didn't have a problem. But this was 2 weeks ago and I am flying from Ontario, CA which has a lot of flights to Oakland. It may depend on where you are flying from. In any case, I would call them ASAP.

I'm a diversity candidate and didn't receive an invite as well and a rep. from my "group" called me and didn't mention anything. I'm assuming what they are referring to is the admitted student events schedule that Dean Tom sent to us today. There are a lot of diversity dinners/events that seem to be occurring the 2nd-4th and seem to be open to all students of diverse backgrounds. I guess your appearance is your invite/ticket?????
