$600-700 is not realistic unless you're planning to share a room. A cheap 1 bdr in south berkeley (mostly undergrads), is about $1200-1300 plus about $100 or so for parking. In north berkeley, you'd be looking at about $1400 for a decent 1br. For $1800 you can get a new apt with stuff like a dishwasher, 3-prong outlets (you think I'm kidding). If you have roommates you could probably get a 2 bdr starting for $1800ish in s. berkeley. The $1000/mo grad housing is a little smallish, kitchenette, desk, etc. but is about 200 ft from boalt hall.
Yeah, I meant for a situation with roommates.
If you want to live right south of campus, then yeah, I agree that the room sharing is the case. This isn't what I meant, however, and there are definitely houses in Berkeley (usually 3BR or larger) where you can get your own room from $600-$700. They aren't dumps, but they also aren't right next to campus (but definitely within walking/biking distance).
Right, but did you mean literally 2 beds in a single bedroom? That's what $700/mo buys you. Or did you mean 2 people sharing a 2 bdr? If the former, you likely won't find my LS takers and will be stuck with UGs (probably sophomores).
