No, I got section 2, but I REALLY wanted Section 3 It was a huge selling point for G'town. FML

Yes it is...but after talking with my roommate a bit about it and looking over the schedule and profs, I'm 95% sure I'm going to roll the dice with Section 3. If anything changes Broncos you'll be the first to know.

You don't have to wait. Check on contact.georgetown.edu to find out your netid. Then all you need to do is log into myaccess.georgetown.edu to find out your GUID number. It begins with an 8. it's under biographical information. Your netif is your login and then either AGUID# or guGUID# is your pword. You'll be able to change your pword and log into your email. That should do it.

I'm from WA, so I feel the opposite; I'm nervous about dealing with the heat.

I'm definitely rocking the unbound thing as well. It seems like a great way to minimize the crap I have to carry around and efficiently utilize desk space in class - big books don't stay open and take up way too much space.

And yeah, I can relate to the difficulty in finding DC apartments...two years ago, I struggled to find one through the summer months as I started a new job. Had to actually sublet for two months before the right opportunity became available. There's plenty of housing in DC, but most of it is A: too expensive, B: located in a crappy part of town, C: not metro accessible, and/or D: too small for a human being to reasonably dwell in. Finding a tolerable apartment can be a real challenge, but if you're persistent enough on Craigslist and its ilk, you'll eventually luck out.

Yeah, if Gewirz wasn't set up like real apartments I couldn't handle it. I mostly study at the library and coffee shops - I plan on spending very little time at home - so I'm not too worried about being excessively caught up in the law school atmosphere.

I'm still a bit jealous though. How much are you paying for your place?

I've got a park bench staked out close to the Law Center. I'm not telling where or one of you might steal it. These apartment prices are terrible! Now that I think about it maybe I'll go Pursuit of Happyness on this sucker. I'm sure the school has some nice couches.

Anybody have experience with short-term housing in the DC area? My guess is no. I'm seriously thinking about slumming in a hostel until my wife moves up with me. I can't believe that'll still cost me $300/month.

I'm paying 1695 for my place as of right now. I might be able to swing a further reduction, but I'm not sure. It's a little more than Gewirz, but I won't have to move out for the summer and I don't have to worry about the frenzy of finals making me want to kill myself there. I am big on separating law school from real life!

Looks like Georgetown (not the law school, I think, but the university itself) is going to have some, uhh, interesting classes next semester. From Glenn Greenwald's latest:

Besides part-time students, are there any sections in which the classes begin at a reasonably late time, say, at 2:00 pm or later. If so, let me know which sections! Classes in the morning really, really suck for me. The mornings are my best study hours; but if my classes begin at 8, 9, or 10, I have to get up at 3, 4, or 5 respectively in order to get some decent studying done--very unpleasant!

I do all my reading for classes the morning of. I can't study the night before; I can read a work of fiction but can't study.

Also, while a bit of a strain, I find the pressure of having to be prepared for class in 4-5 hours to stimulate me to read more quickly and in a more focused manner. Generally, when I don't have this pressure, I waste a lot of time and don't get quality reading/work done.

About housing: I got really lucky very quickly. I posted a brief note on the Georgetown Law 2012 facebook group (and also posted a CL ad) seeking someone to go apartment-hunting with me. I got a few replies from each within 24 hours, and really clicked with another incoming 1L (we'll be in her condo with my furniture--perfect situation for both of us--in Columbia Heights). We both managed to get Section 3, which is cool 'cause we can walk to and from the metro together. I'd definitely suggest posting a note on the FB page (and now probably on your section's page, too) and putting up a "housing wanted" ad on Craigslist. You should find a place pretty quickly.

Can we, like, make a list of all the GULC haters and PUH-LEASE make a pact to check in with them once in a while? ... ya know, to see how all of their infinitely wise 0L prognostications about 1L OCI and Biglaw cutoffs and clerkships are working out, see how they're all doing, and ask how happy they are with the way their school choices and careers turned out? I'd really love to do this annually... and maybe quote their posts when we do so.

Anyone else with me on this?!?
