I just signed up for the trial membership of Amazon Prime and i get free 2 day shipping for 30 days, but you can't buy any of the books from the marketplace using that. I only ordered two books from there because most of the others were just about the same price as the bookstore. I think that if you plan on getting the books by early or middle of next week you should be fine. I can't imagine that our first day assignments will be anything more than I can handle in the 5 days before classes start.chikalicious wrote:Is it too late to buy books online and get expedited delivery? Oooh no, I have a more subtle idea. The first time you get called on for a case, make sure you talk about how someone (probably the plaintiff) is a "weenie."

I just went to Ulrich's and spent $620 on most of my books for this semester. I still need two course books and outlines for the 3 substantive courses. I'll definitely be trying to sell these to other 1Ls come spring/summer.
By the way, are there other incoming, non-summer starter students going to Dominick's tomorrow? If so, I'd love to meet some of you all there, but I hesitate to crash on a group of only summer starters who just finished exams.
Let me know, and maybe I'll see some of you tomorrow.
Fbuda, you don't happen to be at Woodbury, too, do you?

No, I'm actually living on Washtenaw near the intersection with South U. Are you going to be around tomorrow at Dominick's or anywhere else? Let me know. I'm hoping to meet a few people before orientation so I don't go in there completely blind.safari wrote:

don't buy books at ulrich's
the 5pm legal practice is the devil. hilariously enough, it is the class that is pass/fail, but you will skip it far less than others.

Section I.
I've heard some great things about my profs today, and I met two of them. A lot of cool MAPers in my section (or section J), so I'm stoked about that.

I've got that Torts book, but it has extreme highlighting and writing in the margins from notes I just jotted down while reading.itzjulz wrote:Also, just noticed that almost all of my required textbooks are either 2008 or 2009 editions. So far, most of the MAP kids are really cool. I think I've figured out a couple of you TLSers.

Should we wait until orientation starts to get books? I was planning on going on that bookstore tour scheduled for orientation next week...

Even though I'm doing the book trip, and I really don't want to go alone,
I would advise you to wait until you get added to lawopen and get as many books as you possibly can from lawopen. Ulrichs and such and such places are ripoffs.

Speaking of books, i've been browsing online to get a sense of prices, but I've been surprised by how many places are sold out of books. Do the places on campus ever run out of books as well? Also, has anyone ever heard of or used this site? http://www.barristerbooks.com?

I guess I'm the only one here from section L, guess I will have to fill everyone in my section in on the breakfast club and pray that they don't lable me as "that crazy guy" of the section

Awesome! I did pack my favorite cereal. When you break out with the breakfast club schpeel...I'll be trying hard to keep a straight face.

Don't worry about it... your actual small section doesn't matter that much. Your bigger section (EFGH/IJKL/MNOP) matters much more in terms of who you'll make friends with.Chewbacca Defense wrote:I guess I'm the only one here from section L, guess I will have to fill everyone in my section in on the breakfast club and pray that they don't lable me as "that crazy guy" of the section

Current students - does anyone have an iPhone 3g / AT&T plan? 3g didn't seem to be working ANYWHERE in or around the LS. The person I'm on the phone with at AT&T seems to have no clue what's up with the signal. Also, I'm guessing it was more than the 3g because often my texts didn't go through and calls made to my phone went straight to voicemail. I know at least one other MAPer was having issues.
Edit: apparently a tower went down and they dunno when it will be fixed.

One friend was having a similar problem. Not much help, but further corroboration.USC2009 wrote:Current students - does anyone have an iPhone 3g / AT&T plan? 3g didn't seem to be working ANYWHERE in or around the LS. EDIT: Oh, and plenty of people have used them without incident all last year and whatever. No clue what's up.

I've decided not to go through with it.
It's been fun. Maybe I'll reapply in a few years if things change.
Good luck this fall everyone. Wish everyone the best in their careers.
