Yeah, I don't know what a "policy book" would be either. I agree with Merriweather about Chirelstein and Chemerinsky (don't know what Abraham is.. maybe the skinny blue book like Chirelstein). But those are about far, far more than policy.Merriweather wrote:not sure what exactly those are, but chirelstein(Ks), abraham(torts), chemerinsky(con) are amazing.

Re: Michigan 2012
Still no news on section assignments (unless I'm missing something). Does anyone know when we'll get them? It would be nice to get some sense of what we have to do Monday/Tuesday. Also, does anyone have a finalized orientation schedule? I only got the tentative one.vyelps wrote:any 1Ls find out their section yet? just checked wolverine access- nothing under class enrollment.
If one wants to buy new casebooks, would you guys (2L/3Ls) recommend getting them online or from the bookstore? Are the supplements Chirelstein etc. available at the bookstore? I wanted to buy them online and possibly save money but the problem is that we can't buy them without section assignments, and buying them online next week may not allow them to arrive on time in order to do the first class assignment. (Maybe I'm much adoing about nothing here).

Still don't have mine. Is it normal for students not to all get them at the same time?PKSebben wrote:Yes, I got my tuition bill today.

Hi, this is my first time posting on here. I called the Student Affairs office yesterday and they said we can expect an email with our section info on either Thursday or Friday, and they will also post something on the Admitted Students site. Also, the orientation schedule on the Admitted Students site no longer says "tentative", so I assuming that's the final one.chikalicious wrote:Still no news on section assignments (unless I'm missing something). Gettinng section assignments too late to order books online is a problem for first semester 1Ls every year. But hopefully you can get some from upperclassmen once you're on lawopen.

Is lawopen the listserv? I got an e-mail a couple weeks ago telling me that I was added to a listserv, but I'm not really sure how to use it. Do I have to access it through a web browser, or do messages sent through the listserv automatically find their way to my registered e-mail address?Alexandria wrote:Gettinng section assignments too late to order books online is a problem for first semester 1Ls every year. It's the listserv the whole school is on. You'd know if you were on it. I have the feeling you were just subscribed to the May12 listserv.
They'll add you to lawopen soon. Unless, of course, they don't, as they are trying to get people to switch to using the MLawLive portal. I have the feeling they won't be successful until the current 3Ls are gone.

Yeah, I got the first semester housing bill for the Lawyer's club but that's it, and I only got that one a few days ago.PKSebben wrote:I'm a 3L so maybe that's the diff. Really wish this info for books and class lists and bills would be out at least a few weeks before we go in...

I have the feeling the deal is that they try to wait until they are sure as possible that they know who is in the class (i.e., who leaves after getting off a waitlist or who is admitted off Michigan's waitlist) before they put people in sections, to avoid making them too unbalanced or homogenous.

Re: Michigan 2012
could you elaborate a bit about this? i had heard that they try to group us to have a mix of backgrounds (different undergraduate majors, mix of work experience and no work experience, geographical areas). Is it purely a demographic mix? Or do they look through our applications for more subtle ways of categorizing? I can't imagine they have too much time for all of this...Alexandria wrote:I have the feeling the deal is that they try to wait until they are sure as possible that they know who is in the class (i.e., who leaves after getting off a waitlist or who is admitted off Michigan's waitlist) before they put people in sections, to avoid making them too unbalanced or homogenous.

First time posting, but I wanted to let everyone know that my course assignments were on Wolverine Access as of this morning. Login to Wolverine Access and click on My Class Schedule, then cross check with the law school schedule for section. Section E here.

Section P
No early classes either! A huge plus since getting up early (while it's still dark) during the MI winter is not a good look.

How do we know which section we are in? Where is the list/link to cross reference?

Section P as well.
Really surprised to get no early classes and no class until 1 on Fridays. Pretty great schedule all things considered.

I don't think I ever got anything about law open, think they're just pushing Mlawlive on us.Merriweather wrote:the 2Ls hate it.Alexandria wrote:It's the listserv the whole school is on. You'd know if you were on it. I have the feeling you were just subscribed to the May12 listserv.
