I've never knew Heidelberg had food. They do have Das Boot though and that's all that matters really. JG is okay but Palm Palace is better IMO.

But it is so good after a long night of drinking. On that note, if you are from a city where bars are open all night, get used to the fact that everywhere closes at 2am here and it is such a huge letdown.annabeans wrote:+2 for Jerusalem garden. The Chinese food around here is terrible and overpriced. I want to go to Chipotle on Tuesday! I've only had BTB and it was good..but I was pretty inebriated.vidhartha wrote:+1 for Jerusalem garden, and they will add falafel to your chicken pita sandwich which is AWESOME.just a girl wrote:Ali Baba's isn't very good. Is anyone else flying in on Friday evening? I am arriving in Ann Arbor at 8:54pm on the 14th and i'm trying to see if anyone wants to share a shuttle or anything like that. Please let me know. Thanks.

I vote for Madras Masala as best Indian food on campus. Another nice place for special occassions is The Earle, near main street. My now-fiancé and I used to go there for anniversaries and such, when we were undergrads, great food and atmosphere. I don't think many students know about it, but I have always thought the food was better than at Gandy Dancer.

Ugh I'm in Michigan now at my parents house up north. Wish my place were ready to move into in AA but it won't be until the 19th.

Okay, it's official. This town is a driver's worst nightmare. I have so many points I need to make, but basically: SCREW the parking, the one-ways, the construction, many of the drivers, and so much else going on here. Jesus Christ. I'm tempted to ship my car home and just get a pogo stick to go everywhere - it would probably be faster.
Oh, and I just had to park my car because some jackass is blocking my spot (which is reserved too, supposedly) and now I'm parked in a back alley filled with these signs everywhere:

and they're pointing in every direction and some have it so you can't park between 3 and 6 A.M. (no, NOT PM, A-friggin-M), and there are cars parked everywhere but not a single person to tell me what the hell is going on.
I need someone to explain this place to me

A2 definitely has some of the worst drivers you'll ever see I believe. They don't know how to park, how to stay in their lane, how to make a left turn. I thought they sucked in NYC, but man it is terrible out here. Really I have nothing to say that will make you feel better, just know you are not alone in your hatred I guess and be happy you can walk everywhere.USC2009 wrote:Okay, it's official. Haha, thanks. Our shared hatred of this situation will make my transition to living here easier.vidhartha wrote: A2 definitely has some of the worst drivers you'll ever see I believe. Regarding where my car is parked - based on what I said, you think I'm good? I asked some drunk guy who was walking by if it was cool to park there, and he thought it was cool. Do they tow on weekends? Should I just drive around from now til morning?

No, you probably aren't good there. The reason signs say no parking from 3-6 am is so people don't park there overnight. I'd go move it. Ann Arbor is pretty notorious about giving parking tickets/towing.USC2009 wrote:Haha, thanks. Edit: you could also call a tow company to get them to take away the car that is blocking your spot. Otherwise, you should probably just find street parking somewhere.

Whoa, weird post*
Anyway, I figured it out, and I think my car should be good. I'm gonna go retrieve it and reclaim my parking spot.

7 more days until AA. These next four weeks are going to be crazy. I'm excited to meet all the new 1Ls.

I think I'm going to the Den tonight (a friend of mine works there, I've never been). Does anyone want to go? What better night than a Sunday to start hitting the bars in A2?

Oh, and for current students - is it possible to get my ID before orientation? I was hoping to go and grab it so I could start using the gyms here. Otherwise I'll probably have to find a place in A2 and do a month membership.

Re: Michigan 2012
You can get your ID now (I believe I got it the same day I paid my second deposit), but I doubt you can use the gym (at least for free), since you aren't enrolled in summer classes. You probably won't be able to use it until about a week before classes start. But you can pay a fee to use it. I did that for the month of August last year, after I got back to AA.

The Y is like 19 a month a believe. Much better than any of the campus gyms.

How many credits does a Michigan 1L take? I was looking through the required first year curriculum online and it shows classes that add up to 29 credits and then a 1L elective class (so around 31-33 credits?). Seems like a huge 1L required curriculum when the requirement is only 82 credits to graduate..

Re: Michigan 2012
It's not that bad, but it is a little nasty second semester, because you have the elective on top of about 50% more work in legal practice (which stupidly is graded at 3 credits first term and only 2 the second -- exactly the opposite of the actual workload). The upside is 12-13 credit semesters for the last two years though, so that's nice.Go State wrote:How many credits does a Michigan 1L take? IMO unless you're gunning for an H, LP should never require more than 1 study hour a week, maybe 6-7 hours for the night before when you have a memo due the next day.snotrocket wrote:It's not that bad, but it is a little nasty second semester, because you have the elective on top of about 50% more work in legal practice (which stupidly is graded at 3 credits first term and only 2 the second -- exactly the opposite of the actual workload). This. I never even looked at the books my LP prof assigned. I wish I hadn't bought them!BrianEno wrote:

Re: Michigan 2012
My legal practice hours were horribly uneven. Many weeks I would be doing absolutely nothing and then there would be those weeks where everything else got squeezed out and I would be doing all legal practice all the time. I could have avoided it, but that would have required good time management.

Re: Michigan 2012
two stupid questions:
1. what do you mean "gunning for an H?"
and
2. What exactly is covered in the legal practice course?
