The Zingerman's she's talking about is Zingerman's deli, which is tasty too.just a girl wrote:Flashing yellow lights mean slow and caution, but you don't have to stop. They're pretty common around here, especially at night.
Go to Zingermans, Cafe Zola, and the Gandy Dancer. They're all pretty pricey for student budgets (ie most of us won't want to go to them except for special occasions) but if parents are paying, why not? AA doesn't have a great restaurant scene, but there's definitely some decent places. part of the fun of getting to know your classmates is exploring together.

yeah, i do too, and it pisses off people around me. Everyone's stressed, and no one wants to hear about how you're more stressed or sleep deprived than they are. Trust me on this one.USC2009 wrote: Yeah I know. I have a tendency to worry excessively. I get panicky around finals time. Hopefully, that'll help me with these do-or-die-on-finals classes.

Yeah, I can imagine. I actually ended up eating in this vegetarian/Indian restaurant today called Earthen Jar. It was... interesting. I don't think I'll be returning though.just a girl wrote:Flashing yellow lights mean slow and caution, but you don't have to stop. They're pretty common around here, especially at night.

I think that place is a gem. Great beer list and the food is good for Ann Arbor. I'm not overly impressed by the restaurant scene, but I'm a NYC food snob. The Chop House was brutally expensive for what they served. It was damn near criminal.USC2009 wrote:Anything with Zingerman's in the name, and I'm in.PKSebben wrote:If you want to try and get out of the main campus area, I really like Zingerman's Roadhouse. http://www.zingermansroadhouse.com/USC2009 wrote:Oh, and before I forget:

If you like Indian, i've heard Shalimar is good, and Raja Rani (off Thompson) has a pretty cheap good Monday dinner buffet.

I really had to adjust my palette when I was stuck without a car at USC - LA is a fantastic place for food, but not if you're stuck in South Central without a car. 9 of 10 options are fast food, I'd say.

Sweet. It's nice being able to get out of the city. Zipcars are great, too, but something therapeutic about being able to drive around whenever you want. Plus I like red wings games.USC2009 wrote:Yeah. The Chipotle on State St. is so filthy. Go to the one on Washtenaw if possible.

So yeah, can we do lunch Tuesday? Monday I'll be signing my lease and then IKEA will be dropping all my stuff off (between 1 and 5, meaning I can expect them around 7:15).

Zingerman's! It is northwest of campus in Kerrytown.USC2009 wrote:Oh, and before I forget:

Palio. A nice Italian restaurant on Main St.

Just approach with caution basically for the flashing yellow.
As for Zingerman's man fuck that place. So overrated and expensive it's not even funny but if you're not paying it's worth trying. Palio's is good. Champion House isn't bad either. Hit up Ann Arbor brewing company and Grizzly Peak as well. Great beers and good food. Ashlee's on State Street has amazing beers as well. Getting their tasters is great and not far from the LS. No Thai is okay "thai" food. Charley's on South U and Church has good burgers and a nice outdoor area. Bar Louie-Tuesday dollar burgers I believe. Nice atmosphere as well. Pizza House has a good Chicago deep dish as well. Chinese food wise--China Gate is good and not expensive. If you're into Sushi--Sadako on South U and Forest is good. Sushi.come is a bit cheaper though I believe. Same quality IMO. If you're getting breakfast make sure to hit up one of Angelo's, Cafe Maria, or Afternoon Delight. Angelo's get's PACKED though, especially on Saturdays and Sundays. Arabic food, nothing decent on central campus but if you drive off to Washtenaw and Carpenter (10 mins or so away from the LS) you'll come to a place called Palm Palace. Very good food, good prices.

Nice analysis by zett. I generally agree with his comments except for the fucking of Zingermann's. Because, if you are looking to get a taste of Ann Arbor, Zingermann's will not let you down, but it is expensive.
But how could I forget The Heidlberg. It's a must at some point while you're in AA. Reasonably priced for a nice sit down restaurant, they specialize in German food.

...Angelos - Great. I hit this at the PERFECT time, right as I drove into A2 after my redeye flight landed a few hours earlier. Dying of hunger, I hit up my iPhone and found it. Great food. Solid coffee.
...Earthern Jar - Blah. Not very good, despite some solid YELP reviews. Urbanspoon gave it bad reviews, so I'm gonna trust them for a while longer.
...[Japanese place in Canton] - Not very good.
...Ali Babas - Decent. The pita and hummus was okay, but the chicken wrap thing I had was actually pretty good.
I'm definitely down for Chipotle though. A taste of home (maybe I'll have CPK for dinner)

+2 for Jerusalem garden. The Chinese food around here is terrible and overpriced. I want to go to Chipotle on Tuesday! I've only had BTB and it was good..but I was pretty inebriated.vidhartha wrote:+1 for Jerusalem garden, and they will add falafel to your chicken pita sandwich which is AWESOME.just a girl wrote:Ali Baba's isn't very good.
