Did all of the waitlists mention something about deferred admission as a transfer student the following year?coolkatz321 wrote:Just got my decision today... waitlisted! Did they actually say "deferred" or did they just invite you to apply the following year if you matriculate somewhere else?addicted wrote:Did all of the waitlists mention something about deferred admission as a transfer student the following year?coolkatz321 wrote:Just got my decision today... waitlisted! I received the same letter. It says - "As a backup to the wait list, we area pleased to offer you deferred admission as a transfer student in fall 2010. Simply maintain a 3.0 average (or equivalent) or rank in the top half of your class at the end of your first semester at any ABA accredited law school, complete the equivalent of a full-time, first-year curriculum in good academic standing prior to enrollment here, complete the Law School transfer application, maintain good character and fitness, and we will accept you as a transfer."mikeytwoshoes wrote:Did they actually say "deferred" or did they just invite you to apply the following year if you matriculate somewhere else?

Do a lot of law schools offer this? If so, I'd be all over it (potentially) with Minnesota.

Dum question here: how could you tell your application is complete?
Usually how long should you wait before knowing the result?

it said that as a backup to the waitlist, i could attend as a transfer student the following year assuming i obtain 3.0 at any aba schoolmikeytwoshoes wrote:Did they actually say "deferred" or did they just invite you to apply the following year if you matriculate somewhere else?addicted wrote:Did all of the waitlists mention something about deferred admission as a transfer student the following year?coolkatz321 wrote:Just got my decision today... waitlisted! It seems that all they really did was tell people what the sufficient law school GPA for transfer is.addicted wrote:it said that as a backup to the waitlist, i could attend as a transfer student the following year assuming i obtain 3.0 at any aba schoolmikeytwoshoes wrote:Did they actually say "deferred" or did they just invite you to apply the following year if you matriculate somewhere else?addicted wrote:Did all of the waitlists mention something about deferred admission as a transfer student the following year?coolkatz321 wrote:Just got my decision today... waitlisted! I had to contact them and they say you will receive a decision 6-8 weeks after the complete date.nancywong6 wrote:Dum question here: how could you tell your application is complete?

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
I think so. Seems like anything above the 75% LSAT that looks fishy (maybe out of state or a sub-par GPA) is nearly an auto-WL.
I'd like to see more 161-163, 3.6+ applicants because that's the typical area for non-URMs to be admitted in past years.

I'm a 162, 3.49 WI resident still waiting...should hear within the next week or two, hopefully they can live with my gpa...this is by far my first choice. Good luck to everyone still waiting. And hang in there all you WLers, they gotta take some of you.

There's 3 UW threads now, so I'm going to ask this in all three:
How many people that got waitlisted above a 161 are out of state?

Not really. There's no discernible trend based on location. It just seems like if you're above 162/3.5 you have a chance at beating the WL, but no assurance. A lot of people don't even list location.

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
While it's true a good number keep off their location, I can't seem to find a single Wisconsin resident on LSN with above or near median numbers who didn't get in. Minnesota, Michigan, CA, Arizona... but it's not WI.
However, this is quite self-selective and not statistical, so whatever.

Well, I'm a WI resident. I'm NEAR their median. 160 LSAT (I know, I know, a 162 would be better), but my gpa (3.71) is above the median. Does that mean it will even out? Also, I'm a UW-Madison Grad, so they have to look favorably on their own, right?

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
According to the UW's perspective students stats page, the class of 2008 enrolled 64% WI residents and class of 2007 enrolled 63% WI residents. But I would be interested to see what percentage of WI residents make up the applicant pool...anyone know?

Same as you except 161 and tiny bit lower GPA -- so I am hoping the WI residency + UW-Madison thing is enough to get in. I actually think moreso than UW-Madison, being from Wisconsin will help. Historically though on LSN it looks like 161 is the cut off, even with a higher GPA... check last year and look at that wall of green at 161 vs the yellow/red for 160lcole1982 wrote:Well, I'm a WI resident. Well, I did look through LSN last year. My 160 does seem a bit up in the air given the past. However, glancing through quickly, it looks like a lot of the 160s did get in, and I couldn't find anyone with numbers similar to mine in the rejection/waitlist pile who was from Wisconsin. Good news? Who knows these days.

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
Totally playing arm-chair pundit here, but look, Wisconsin ain't gonna get a wave of 164+'s to attend this year. Apps just aren't up around the country. I can't see a major shift. So at the end of the day they might just be getting more conservative, YP'ing the top, keeping their medians tight, and waiting to see the full pool. Remember, they extended their deadline for apps to March 1st, they clearly are thinking something with the Feb LSATs might change things.
That said, I don't think their medians will change THAT much -- maybe 161 --> 162, but still close to last year -- so I think you'd be one of the more competitive WL's if it comes to that. Obviously get ready for an immediate LOCI and maybe another LOR...
Best of luck.
