personally, while being a "stanford reject" I mean they have a class of 18 people for god's sake  , I truly believe Berkeley would give me all I want out of law school; a great environment, great professors, and great opportunities.

p.s. I have worked with the homeless in NYC and I do not consider them aliens who have come to ruin our parks here on earth, they have some great/sad stories to tell.

also, unless you go to yale, you can always get the _______ reject appellation

Yeah. I'm just curious, what kind of area did you grow up in? Suburban, rural? This probably has a lot to do with your dislike of Berkeley.

No matter how bitter you may be this is not the place to vent you anger; this thread is for people who have decided on ucb and your experience as an ug is worthless to the thread, especially since your bias is known by all 1000 tls members :)

Bizzle,

I understand that you had some bad experiences with Berkeley, but it's kind of annoying that you go into every thread that says something positive about Berkeley and bash it. It is great to get all of the positives and negatives, but many of the points you bring up are just repeated over and over again in various threads. For most people choosing Stanford over Berkeley is probably the right choice. For others Berkeley may be a better fit. I am personally choosing between Berkeley and some higher ranked (and lower ranked) schools and I may well end up choosing to attend UCB due to the general fit of the school with my interests, the proximity of my family, and the fact that I truly love Berkeley as a city. I agree that Berkeley has negative aspects - and they are different for everyone. I just think people should visit and decide for themselves.

Wait, you're a berkeley undergrad? You're posting that stuff based on your experience as an undergrad? Please tell me you're a boalt alum and that you're not just full of shit...

hey Bizzle,

constructive criticism is cool and appreciated. But it seems that every chance you get to bash on Berkeley you do. Makes me wonder, were you secretly wait-listed and trying to convince ppl to free up a slot for you?

Northern California is very different from Southern California. No palm trees and everyday high sunny 70s up there.

The homeless situation is definitely an issue at Berkeley. There is no comparison between south Berkeley (where Boalt is) and most parts of NYC. I was in Berkeley once and I saw more homeless in a few minutes than I would see in days in NYC.

I'd just like to say that I personally love (as a 0L Boalt student) that Berkeley is not "another school" of some particular region (north, south, east, or west). I love that Berkeley is the "Berkeley" of the west. While not knocking Columbia, Penn, Chicago, etc., I can't help but feel like Berkeley has more individuality than any other t14 (with maybe the exception of Yale and Harvard mostly for being the indisputable top schools, each for a different reason). Once again, not knocking....just my opinion.

Second, it's interesting the comment was made that most Berkeley student's feel like Columbia, Penn, Chicago, and other t14's (I presume from the comment made) are "better" than Berkeley. Being from Virginia, people I know definitely agree Berkeley has a greater "wow" factor (here at least) than Penn, Virginia, or Michigan for example. And even assuming the comments of bizzle to be true, Berkeley is definitely the best public institution in the nation, which puts it ahead of either (or equal to at least) Virginia/Michigan... making Berkeley what.... 8th/9th best (in the worst case scenario) instead of its current rank of 6th. Seriously! Regardless, it's a t10 (and a t5 in my opinion) and a school that lawyers, judges, and intellectuals around the world recognize as incredibly prestigious! Not to mention, Berkeley has the 4th lowest acceptance rate... which = many apply, few get in, which = it's a pretty damn desirable school... and for a reason!

It's amazing to me that we've done what so many could not do (I know Harvard, Stanford & Columbia acceptances that received the boot from Berkeley) and you still have "opinions" that try to suggest that your achievement wasn't quite good enough! I'd be interested to see where bizzle's been accepted/rejected/wait listed...

Oh... and I did not get rejected from Stanford.

Just my thoughts... :D

now wait a minute. You can't assume that all the people in the NYC subways are homeless. Sure, some of the people sleeping in the stations may be, but not all the people asking for donations. They are professional panhandlers.

Er. I used to party pretty hard which led to several subway rides at 4 in the morning and I can tell you that, around that time, the subway cars are filled with homeless people. Not panhandlers. Homeless people for whom homelessness is not a transitional state. I'm guessing they'd beg on the streets during the day and come underground to sleep somewhere warm and 'safe' at night. There are a lot of homeless people in NY.

Can't wait to see everyone at ASD so they can make the decision for themselves. And I agree, the XXX Class of 2012 threads aren't really the best place for a bunch of BS from a suburban kid who's still in UG

I don't really get why people view homelessness as such a problem. Going to a school in an area with a quite a few homeless people by, I'm not at all bothered by it. They pose no threat and the police have no tolerance for any outrageous behavior if they do act up. Although it may not be the nicest thing to have around, I don't really feel like it should sway anyone's decision for personal safety.

Incorrect. I'm not pressing the issue for any issue other than safety. I have seen several homeless people commit muggings and initiate fights for little or no reason. Are most homeless people harmless? Of course. As I mentioned earlier, I slept in train cars with homeless people and was never molested. My concern is that you never know which homeless person is homeless because he is mentally unstable. Also, odor and being confronted with a physical manifestation of class inequality.

We get it, dude. You think Berkeley has a homeless problem. You strongly dislike Berkeley. You can't understand why anyone would choose Berkeley over a higher ranked school. What I don't understand is why did you put yourself through 4.5 years of misery? It's pretty clear you didn't enjoy your UG experience. Why'd you stay?

Wow... I had no clue I was wasting my time responding to the ignorance of calling Berkeley students, Stanford rejects.

Once again...

If people are REALLY concerned about the homeless problem, then there are other areas around Berkeley that have far fewer homeless people. You can commute if you really feel the need to avoid them.

And bizzle, take your trash out of this thread. You don't like Berkeley. We get it. Now shut up and let those of us who either do like it or want to go there enjoy the thread. Go make a "Berkeley sucks" thread and take your irrational fear of homeless men stealing your GF there.
