I love the summer start program. 1 less doctrinal class and empty hallways. Playing ball with the professors. Can't beat that. Its the same work I would be doing in the fall, just with 1 less class. Tuesday could probably work for lunch also for me if monday is no good.USC2009 wrote:Word.PKSebben wrote:Totally. This whole sentence hurt my soul though. You poor poor summer starters. Yeah we definitely need to do this, maybe Monday for lunch? Dont have class until 3pm and I can spend some time procrastinating from my memo.
And, I'll get back to you about Monday. Since I'm moving in that day it might be kind of hectic if I get furniture delivered and I have to put it all together, Ikea style.

I want burritos! And I want chipotle burritos. Can I be a part of the burrito club Monday? And MY memo has been done for weeks, vidhartha.

I walked through the LS today - it seems like the renovations they're doing would be a pain for summer starters.
But, yeah, I see the benefits of doing the summer program, I just couldn't have given up my summer.

I dunno if you can join the burrito club with that attitude. And by the time i was even out of my chair, everyone else and their mother was on that line to sign up for memo conferences, didn't see a point in trying. So now I get to enjoy the double stress of finals and memo. Aren't I lucky?just a girl wrote:I want burritos! And I want chipotle burritos. Can I be a part of the burrito club Monday? Its actually not bad at all, the classrooms we are using now are at the other end of the building so we don't get the noise with the windows open. To be honest, I forget there's construction going on unless I look out the window, you can't see it unless you are at that side of the building which I rarely am.USC2009 wrote:I walked through the LS today - it seems like the renovations they're doing would be a pain for summer starters.

Ah! You have to let me join, I'm the summer starter cheerleader and I love burritos.
I'm buying you a drink as soon as your memo is in and finals are over!!
And the summer is AMAZING. I'm so freaking glad i switched into it instead of staying in fall start. I'm sure you all will be wonderful, but this has truly been a remarkably great summer.

Ah, I see. I still get lost in the law school sometimes. Like.. it's embarrassing. Especially when stairs are involved.

I'm down for Monday or Tuesday. I think the summer start program is neat, but seeing you guys in the library and reading room when I'm there to putz around raises my heart rate a little.

Haha, yeah its pretty unsettling for me to be in the library then also, I never did this in undergrad. But I like the library because we all get to suffer together.PKSebben wrote:I'm down for Monday or Tuesday. If we can't do Monday by the way, maybe sometime this weekend to kick off the burrito club? I still have not been to Chipotle so I'm kinda excited.

So wait, are the summer starters still in class? Finals? Done?
And why is nobody down to do anything this weekend? That's what they're made for!

We have finals in about 10 days, and that's why no one is doing anything besides studying this weekend. Sorry. Some people may be doing things, but it's probably going to be an extremely chill weekend socially. After finals though, I don't know if Ann Arbor will have enough alcohol to satisfy the needs of our class.
Monday or Tuesday are totally cool for lunch though, since the weekend may not pan out. Are we agreed on Chipotle?

Weekend is fine for me, and yes we summer starters are still in class, this is the last week coming up and finals are the week after. Stress level is definitely rising, but most of us are taking it in stride.

Ha, talk about building suspense!just a girl wrote:You'll find out next week! what did you think?
I liked it, although I still feel like so many of my fears haven't been quelled. I know that you all said it wasn't awful and you could enjoy it, but that hasn't outweighed the countless amount of times I've heard "enjoy being miserable next year", "wow, I don't envy you" and "why would you go to law school?"...
Oh, and I'm glad the girl in the middle of the group of five said the thing about feeling like everyone was going to be smarter than she was - I feel that way. For what it's worth though, I make up for it with inappropriate humor and awkward moments.

Oh, and before I forget:
1. What the hell do flashing yellow signals mean? I know flashing red means you should treat it like a stop sign, but what about yellow? I've never seen that before.
2. Where should I go to eat this weekend / next week while I still have someone paying for me? Nothing too expensive/fancy, but I'd like to get a good taste of A2.

Well, the people telling you that are probably saying that just to temper your excitement, and unless they went to Michigan, I would take it with a grain of salt. Honestly, law school is law school, it's academically challenging, and you will feel stupid at times. We all do. The important thing is that you really are in it together, and we do take care of each other.
I know I'm repeating what was said in the video, but you will see it when you get here and know exactly what I'm talking about. Inappropriate humor and awkward jokes are pretty much par for the course, so you should fit in just fine.
Seriously though, don't worry. All of what we said was maybe a month out from finals, and we still manage to have good humor and really like each other, even in feeling stressed, etc.

If you want to try and get out of the main campus area, I really like Zingerman's Roadhouse. http://www.zingermansroadhouse.com/USC2009 wrote:Oh, and before I forget:

Yeah I know. I have a tendency to worry excessively. I get panicky around finals time. Hopefully, that'll help me with these do-or-die-on-finals classes.just a girl wrote:Well, the people telling you that are probably saying that just to temper your excitement, and unless they went to Michigan, I would take it with a grain of salt. Flashing yellow lights mean slow and caution, but you don't have to stop. They're pretty common around here, especially at night.
Go to Zingermans, Cafe Zola, and the Gandy Dancer. They're all pretty pricey for student budgets (ie most of us won't want to go to them except for special occasions) but if parents are paying, why not? AA doesn't have a great restaurant scene, but there's definitely some decent places. part of the fun of getting to know your classmates is exploring together.
