just so you all know, you can get office from the undergrad bookstore at UVa for $10 as long as you are a student of some kind.
they have it for both pc and mac. that might change some calculations.

If that's true it erases almost all the value of the bundle (though the loaner laptop program still sounds like a good thing).jase1348 wrote:just so you all know, you can get office from the undergrad bookstore at UVa for $10 as long as you are a student of some kind.

Have you seen the place? Any chance you have some decent pics? I'm trying to find housing and would love not to have to fly down there just for an apartment hunt.showNprove wrote:For all those still looking for housing, this place would be golden. I had already signed a lease at a sweet one bedroom furnished place in Arlington Court Condominiums, but the landlord has been really nice and is letting me out of the lease. It's a stone's throw from the law school so thought I'd share the craigslist ad here for anyone still looking. My experience with the landlord (just a guy running a small business aside from his regular job) has been extremely positive, and he seems very accommodating.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Computer stuff confused the hell out of me, mostly because I was concerned mine wouldn't "work". I have a 5 year old Mac PowerBook that's a freakin' hoss. Still running strong and should make it to commencement and the 7 year mark. And I'm someone who likes toys, so I've certainly eyed the new ones.
But, I digress:
1) UVA is pretty flexible with the computer budget. Layout a computer, bring them the price estimate, or send them a PDF and they'll adjust your budget. No purchase receipt needed as far as I could tell. I was never asked. I think you see where this is going....
2) Unlike some other schools, I think, all you need is wireless here. So, if you have a computer that currently works just fine, you're probably okay. There's no network software or programs that need to be installed so it's not as though you need some minimum requirements. Like I said, my computer is 5 years old and I haven't had any problems.
3) The bundles always seemed like a ripoff. Stuff you didn't need for a price you didn't want. The supposed advantage of in-house support at UVA is sort of a myth. As for hardware repairs, that might be worth it if you think you're cursed with computers or just a general klytz. But for other stuff, Law ITC will help just about anyone so don't worry that they'll turn you away because you don't have a bundle computer. (Side note: I won't ruin the surprise, but you will very much enjoy Law ITC's pre-exam emails.) I wish I had an answer for whether they would give you a loaner computer if you weren't on the bundle, but I don't know. I'd be willing to bet though that they could make it happen if you had to send your computer somewhere for repairs.
4) In sum, computers are overrated, bundles are way overrated, and the money is best spent elsewhere if buying a new computer is really just a want rather than a need. Word, iTunes, Firefox, Acrobat are the only programs I run on a daily basis anymore.

keep going!! everybody, keep typing.
i have noticed a lot of people rattling on about how great chipotle is (pretty great, i live three blocks from one
), but where is the love for five guys? it's those burgers i miss the most when i'm away from the commonwealth.
also, does anybody know if there is a good 24 hour diner option in charlottesville? one thing my mid-sized midwestern city does better than anywhere else is 24 hour diners.

I just went to In-N-Out this past weekend. I will indeed miss them too. There are like 1203487102398471234 of them in San Diego and ZERO in Virginia.

There is a Five Guys on Barracks Road not far from the law school. It's a good walk, which is a good thing, because after eating there you'll need one.gardners2 wrote:Maybe you should go to U of South Carolina. 5 guys everywuryoupiiz wrote:I WANT FIVE GUYS!

I don't know what I'm going to do without 2 buck Chuck....I might go so far as to drive up to DC once every month or two to stock up

Edit: Trader Joe's for those who were not as fortunate during undergrad...Oh, and for those of you who do not drink, TJ's is also heaven for anyone who likes frozen food at a cheap price and Indian sauces in a jar (not as good as the real thing but oh so convenient and still tasty).

Several Random things:
1) Do we have to ask for more money for the laptop or is that already included in our loans? I might keep my old one so does that mean I should take 2000 from my total or something?
2) Really glad to find out there is a 5 guys in cville. I just discovered them when one finally came to Williamsburg. Yum.

I've still never been to In-N-Out, and it looks I won't for the next three years.

There's a Five Guys AND a Chipotle in Charlottesville? This is going to be really bad for my staying-in-shape goal.
