Ok, another stupid question. Do I have to pay the origination fee on my Gradplus loan? How does that work, I pay it upfront?

For someone who is already done the app for a lender, what do you put for the loan dates? I assume it starts 8/2009 but I have no idea when it ends?

You put that as the end date and the beginning date?YCrevolution wrote:I put down 08/2009, doesn't mean it's necessarily right, but it makes sense.limegreen wrote:For someone who is already done the app for a lender, what do you put for the loan dates? Thanks again. I wish there were some step by step instructions somewhere. I feel like I'm guessing on everything.

YC, how do you know everything??YCrevolution wrote:It's taken out of the loan money disbursed, as in, your lender will take the money of your loan before you ever see it.limegreen wrote:Ok, another stupid question. I'd accept the loan first (so when your lender requests confirmation, UVA will know you've accepted the loan); but if you do them both at roughly the same time (within 24 hours of each other), I doubt it would make a difference, showNprove wrote:Do we have to wait for our lender to approve our application before we accept our loans online? Do we have to do our PLUS and Stafford stuff all at once? I know they are separate apps so is it okay if I do one today and one tomorrow?

Okay cool, that's kind of what I'm doing too. I definitely want the Stafford but I'm trying to figure out just how much I need after that. Probably the full amount, but I want to do some calculations to be sure and I'm too lazy today after all that Stafford paperwork!

I did the loan counsel thingie but its not showing in SIS that I did the loan counsel thingie. I don't want to have to do it again. Anyone else having this issue?
Has anyone who has done it played with the loan calculator at the end? Bad times.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
On the GradPlus lender application it asks me how much I want, do I put the total for the year or for all three years?
ETA: It also asks me for a time on the loan. I assume since all I know is tuition for this year that I put the amount for this year, but then should I only put the loan date for this year? This is so confusing.

I'm doing Discover, it seemed like the most user friendly and straight forward. I guess I'll just put whatever for the dates. Why are there no directions!!!YCrevolution wrote:I'm not sure about the loan date, but unless you have an odd Grad Plus lender, you should put down only the amount for this year (since your federal eligibility is only established for this year, anyways).limegreen wrote:On the GradPlus lender application it asks me how much I want, do I put the total for the year or for all three years?

I put 7/2010 as the end date. This is because I thought there was a possibility of still taking some classes over the summer, but I'm not sure if that's even true or if those classes would qualify you to use loans for them.limegreen wrote:You put that as the end date and the beginning date?YCrevolution wrote:I put down 08/2009, doesn't mean it's necessarily right, but it makes sense.limegreen wrote:For someone who is already done the app for a lender, what do you put for the loan dates? I don't know where to look for confirmation on the SIS page, but I printed out the confirmation page at the end of the training, so I have evidence!ndm2007 wrote:I did the loan counsel thingie but its not showing in SIS that I did the loan counsel thingie. edit: Okay, I found where the confirmation of loan counseling is on the SIS page. Mine still says "incomplete," but there's probably nothing to worry about. The servers might get updated after someone in the Fin. Aid office checks out the list of people who have done the interview.

Anyone else get a "Page not found." when they click on the loan counseling stuff? Mine takes me to some "mapping your fortune" website and says the link doesn't exist.CE2JD wrote:I don't know where to look for confirmation on the SIS page, but I printed out the confirmation page at the end of the training, so I have evidence!ndm2007 wrote:I did the loan counsel thingie but its not showing in SIS that I did the loan counsel thingie. Yes, I also get page not found, and I also completed it. My status on SIS still shows as incomplete. They probably just need more time to process, I guess.limegreen wrote:Anyone else get a "Page not found." when they click on the loan counseling stuff? +1 on not having to do it again, though I'm sure we could fly through the test questions no problem.

Maybe the other website updated or something and they need to fix the links. Is there any timeline for doing the loan counseling thing? I accepted my loans today and also applied through the lender today. Is there anything else I need to do besides the loan counseling?

I don't think so. I'm just trying to figure out how to support my wife and I on our savings and Stafford loans, especially if she can't find a job!limegreen wrote:Maybe the other website updated or something and they need to fix the links.
