Re: UVA Class of 2012
Their calculation accounts for # of credit hours. If they didn't, my GPA couldn't be what it is. And I believe it says so in the LSAC handbook, as well.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Dude, if credits DIDN'T count (which they do) my GPA would have gone UP...which I guess wouldn't really matter at this point anyway. Except the nerd in me shuddered to see my GPA dropped from LSAC's A- calculation as a 3.67 instead of a 3.70...ah well, let's just say that sitting here on THIS side of admissions is so much better than the other side.Cavalier wrote:Credits definitely count.

UVA is an exceptional school that I regretted not applying to after I visited it and saw how happy all of the students were. I too have always been impressed with how excited and communicative incoming UVA students are. I do think it has a lot to do with how exceptional the law school's quality of life is. To me, the top 3 quality of life options in the top 10 are UVA, Stanford and Berkeley in that order. Congrats to everyone that is going there!
Best,
Ken

lol, me too. I feel like a SCOTUS Justice just called me up to congratulate me on my choice or something. Thanks Ken!iceberger wrote:Ken wrote:UVA is an exceptional school that I regretted not applying to after I visited it and saw how happy all of the students were. Re: UVA Class of 2012
Okay doods.
I did the following for my Financial Aid:
-Accepted the Stafford loans on SIS (I'm not using any of the GradPlus)
-Applied with Discover
-Read and e-signed my MPN (Master Promissory Note)
-Took that counseling session thingy for UVA
Is that all I need to do? Am I missing something?

Are you going to pay tuition with a discover card? Does everyone get the same amount of stafford loans also? I only got like 8500 for the year.

After you accept the loans does it then give you a list of lenders or something, or can I find that list now before I accept?

So how do I know what my choices are? Is there a list somewhere or is this something I should just know?YCrevolution wrote:I believe it asked you to select a lender before completing the acceptance process.limegreen wrote:After you accept the loans does it then give you a list of lenders or something, or can I find that list now before I accept?

Anyone know how big our locker things are? And how does that work, do we definitely all get one? I am just thinking ahead about having to walk to class in the rain and stuff, I'll probably want somewhere to put rain shoes and an umbrella.

As far as I know, everyone who pays the ~$25 yearly fee gets a small locker (a relatively small cube) and a big locker (like a standard tall-thin high school locker).limegreen wrote:Anyone know how big our locker things are? I think the expression is "deep enough for a suit, tall enough for a softball bat." I heard a couple different students say that at the ASD. The lockers are composed of two parts. There's a part that's very narrow, but high and deep, which is perfect for putting clothing in without having to fold it in half. Then there's a part on top that is more like a box, which would be for books and whatever else.limegreen wrote:Anyone know how big our locker things are? Good deal, thanks. I am really excited about having a locker. It will be nice to leave a pair of glasses and a sweater or something in there in case I forgot them.Cavalier wrote:I think the expression is "deep enough for a suit, tall enough for a softball bat." Re: UVA Class of 2012
This is probably a stupid question, but I know nothing about this, so which one am I supposed to pick? All the big companies look pretty much the same for me.
Also, what kind of info am I going to need to give them? Am I going to have to reenter all the financial info I put on the FAFSA and stuff?

Thanks, YC, I knew I could count on you!YCrevolution wrote:I'd pick a company that doesn't charge origination and guarantee fees (0% in fees for Stafford, and 3% instead of 4% for Grad Plus). Discover Student Loans is one such company. You don't need to establish bank or credit account with any lender to get the loan, and there's no reason why you should for federal loans unless you were going to do it without the loan anyways.limegreen wrote:This is probably a stupid question, but I know nothing about this, so which one am I supposed to pick? You need to have your Driver's License, basic personal info (SSN, birthdate, address, etc.), and contact information for two references (who will be contacted in the event your default on your loan and the loan company can't find you). If you want to sign your MPN online, you'll also need your FAFSA PIN, although you can also do this by postal mail. You don't need the FAFSA financial info since your lender will confirm your eligibility and loans amounts with UVA.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
