I don't know about season tickets yet, but I'm up for a few games.

Any basketball fans? There are Atlanta Dream games going on right now through September, and then of course, Hawks starting right after.

I think I will be doing Campus Crossing. I am in NY and just dont have time to fly down to Atlanta and go apartment hunting. Campus Crossing is brand new, comes furnished, and a direct shuttle to Emory. I will not be brining a car down my first year and there is a MARTA stop close by, so it some what has me sold.

gatorfan787 wrote:booker09, Campus Crossings definitely has A\C, it's a nice modern complex, you typically can't go wrong with new construction. I took a tour during ASD and it was nice, though a little cookie-cutter... same furnishings in every apartment, typical apartment construction and layout. Convenient and easy though, and probably good for getting involved with other grad students and being social.

I will be starting to move July 1st as that's when my lease starts, so I should be in ATL most of July and all of August... Ikea will start to get old, so I think us early residents need to get Bar Reviews started early.
gatorfan, thanks for letting me know, this is good news lol
and i'm not sure what Bar Review is, but if it involves alcohol, i am down. :D

Bar Reviews: Weekly law school ritual where a bar/pub/club is selected and the whole group goes. Often there are pre-parties prior to the official event.

I was talking to a 1L at the ASD and he said the few weeks leading up to orientation were awesome, lots of parties and going out, getting to know one another. We need to kick it off big. :D

I'm going out in Atlanta a couple of nights this week with some future classmates. Anyone else interested? Not sure what we'll be doing, but it should be fun.

Go big or go home. Are most of you all going to be in Atlanta for the month of August?

I'm working through next Friday, then taking ~6 weeks off between work and school (I've been saving money like mad for six months to fund this time off- so I'm looking forward to it.) Moving day is the 28th, and after that I'll be in Atlanta without much to do other than the aforementioned setting-up-apartment, etc. I have a weekend trip planned next month and a friend visiting in early August, but the rest of my time off is wide open.

So I just signed my lease for campus crossing. If anyone wants to live there I suggest signing soon.

I received this email from them on June 11.

"This is just a friendly notice to update everyone on our current occupancy- there are NO 1 bedroom or 3 bedroom apartments left. If you have a lease for a 3 bedroom apartment please notify me so we can send you a new lease for a 2 bedroom apartment.
The least expensive floorplan remaining is a 2 bedroom / 2 bath apartment for $680 a month. There are a few spots remaining in the $710 (3 spots left), $725 (2 spots left), $730 (1 spot left) and $740 (1 spot left) floorplans for 2 bedroom / 2 bath apartments.
The parking spots here at the property are FULL- if you have a lease that has parking please contact me so I can notify you of an alternate parking option."

Yeah, booker- mine will be the cheapest vacation ever, since it was all I could do to save money for rent, etc for the month I won't be working. But I'm excited, even if I mostly just sit around reading (hey, it's not like I'll have much time to read for fun after August.)

Do you guys know when we have to pay our tuition? Do we pay for the whole year or per semester?

i'm assuming we pay by semester...? it'd be kinda demanding (of emory) if we had to pay the entire year up front, no?

Yeah the lady told me that the alternate parking option was parking on Emory's campus. You'd have to take the shuttle to get your car. WTF?

If you are paying through loans, Emory just takes it out automatically so you never have to worry about paying it yourself. They do this separately before the fall semester and spring semester. So if you are paying with non-loan money, I would assume that they take payment for semesters separately for most people. Some schools can give you a discount if you pre-pay a year's (or more) worth of tuition, but I'm not sure if Emory does that.

Ok cool, and I assume if we have a scholarship they will reduce the amount we pay up front, rather than reimbursing us after?

So the recommended summer reading is up on the admitted student site. Why can't I find any of these books at my local library.

LOL. Emory already has me spending my summer job money :(

Emory Law Admitted Students Website wrote: Dean of Students Katherine Brokaw strongly suggests that you read the following two books this summer, before Orientation: “Succeeding in Law School” by Herbert Ramy (the best single book of advice for new law students, written by a longtime law professor); and “The Creative Lawyer; A Practical Guide to Authentic Professional Satisfaction”, by Michael Melcher (how to envision, plan and manage your individual development in the legal profession, starting in law school).

Additional recommended summer reading: “Law 101”, by Jay Feinman (an overview of the first-year law curriculum as well as the U.S. legal system); “Reading Like a Lawyer”, by Ruth Ann McKinney (techniques for reading law school material more effectively and efficiently; includes a chapter on briefing cases, how and why).

hey all, sry if this has already been discussed, but what kind of financial aid packets have ppl been getting?

i (finally!!) got my financial aid packet over the phone, and was told that it was $20,500 in stafford loans. on the FAFSA website, it says $20,500 is the max amount for a grad student per year, but only less than half of it is subsidized. i was wondering if anyone got any other kind of loan (anything other than stafford?).
