I know the 8 month estimate on the U of M budget PDF says 63,700, but I'm trying to calculate the summer as well. My parents and I figured somewhere around 68,000. 46,200 for tuition. 8,000-ish for rent. 5,000 for food. The rest was divided up between books, supplies, medical expenses, and personal stuff (totaling around 6,000). Then some extra $ for anything else.

I live pretty extravagantly and take out the entire COA in living expenses. You could certainly make do in Ann Arbor on less, but be prepared to skimp on housing.Merriweather wrote:i took out the full 15K in staffords for cost of living for the yearUSC2009 wrote:Bump to this:

It's the day before I'm moving, however.. So I hope I can swing it, as I was supposed to be picking up my moving truck at 5:30p on the 30th.

I might go to the SF event so that I have an excuse to go to NorCal and visit a friend. Sure, the LA one is nearby... but I'm ALWAYS in LA.
Oh, and what are the policies of using the gym(s) on campus? Do you just need to have a Umich ID? I'm trying to figure out what I'll do for the month of August before classes start...

I'm going to be at the SF reception. I'm kinda worried about distance though, it's a WHOLE two blocks away from me.

Can I propose a hypothetical?
Let us suppose..... a future Michigan law student is driving to Ann Arbor, He is going to live in the Lawyers' Club. He is driving from the Western half of the United States, and he pulls into Ann Arbor and is driving east down State Street. Where does he go to find the free parking that has been spoken of on this thread?

1. Doesn't State St. run north and south?spencer26 wrote:Can I propose a hypothetical?

2. If you are talking about the free street parking for the year, you can park on the street for free in the red circle in the picture below. Depending on the time of day, you will be able to park closer to the law school. Be warned, that sometimes you'll have to park further away and sometimes you might be looking for a spot for more than a couple of minutes. But that's what you have to deal with when you don't pay.

Sorry about State Street, I get so turned around in Michigan in terms of directions. I am used to mountains. But, someone on this thread, I believe it was Merriweather...?, said that a lot of Lawyers' Club residents will park in a parking lot a couple blocks away for free.

Eh. He might be talking about the one on Monroe and State, but:spencer26 wrote:Sorry about State Street, I get so turned around in Michigan in terms of directions. I am used to mountains. 1. You can only really park there for free during the evening and on weekends.
2. That's where the new law school building will be going up, and I believe construction starts this fall.

Okay, thank you. Does, anyone know where most people park that live in the Lawyers' Club?
Also, one more issue. I think I may have requested too little when it comes to GradPlus loans. Is there any way to request more?

Did you not just see the big red circle on the Google Map? That's where free street parking is.spencer26 wrote:Okay, thank you. Does, anyone know where most people park that live in the Lawyers' Club?
But since that doesn't seem like an option that you are considering:
1. Most people in the LC don't have cars.
2. About half of the ones that do have cars rent out spaces for the year, paying anywhere from $50 - $100 a month or there's an UM lot that's about 15 minutes away by foot. You'll have to pay for that too.
3. The other half park for free on the street.

I can't believe MAP is in about 6 weeks. And OCI! Scary thoughts, but I can't wait for it to be over. MAP is going to be fun this year. I promise.

Whoa, I did see the big red circle on the google map, but please, don't nail me up to the cross just yet. My question was directed more towards the fellow that was speaking of the free parking lot for the Lawyers' club. But, I guess it doesn't exist. The street parking wasn't what I meant. Thanks for answering the question.tl wrote:Did you not just see the big red circle on the Google Map? That's where free street parking is.spencer26 wrote:Okay, thank you. Dear god, the bar exam is 3 weeks from tomorrow. Gulp.
Ignore any earlier statement I may have made about how this isn't THAT bad. It's beyond awful. It's like taking every law school exam at the same time, closed book. I want to set myself on fire.
