Okay, so my fellow (soon-to-be) Purple-and-whites here is the deal
I sent in my deposit last week Wednesday, and was able to set up my email today.
I'd only worry if you couldn't register after a week.

Re: NYU 2012
Can I worry if I sent my deposit in last night and I don't here anything by tomorrow (the official deadline)? I did get a receipt email, but how long until I get something a bit more official, or until I can see something on the admitted students website? Just anxious... sorry.mwazaumoja wrote:Okay, so my fellow (soon-to-be) Purple-and-whites here is the deal

Re: NYU 2012
To be honest I never got a confirmation, they say it takes the transaction at least a day to show up in their computers. I called the Admissions Office two days after I sent the payment in (I sent my deposit in the day before it was the deadline) and a lady there told me that it was received. If you look on the admitted nyu student website it kind of implies you should just set up your account a few days later.
You don't get a confirmation email, but don't worry, I'm sure the payment transferred alright.
....Also you'll feel great once your email account is setup!

Mwaza is right, there is nothing else coming. Try to setup the NetID approximately 7-10 days later at start.nyu.edu.

So are we certain that the NYU deposit is binding? I am freaking out and havent sent mine in yet because I can't decide between NYU and Texas... what happens if I send it in tomorrow but havent withdrawn from TX yet?

Re: NYU 2012
I was anxious about getting my Net ID and NYU email address as confirmation that I really will be attending in the fall. Here was my timeline for obtaining the account information. Hopefully this will help others who are still waiting.
I accepted the seat deposit on April 8th. I mailed my deposit by check from California on April 9th. I received the email notification that my deposit was received and that I could obtain my Net ID and setup my email address alias on April 27. I was getting errors that only members of the NYU community could use the system. These errors went away at midday on April 29 and I was able to setup my account. As of May 1st, they haven't yet cashed the check.
Some notes:
1. The system identifies you as your initials followed by a random string of numbers such as rah589@nyu.edu. This is your permanent account ID and email address. You can set up an alias to this address which will have the form of blah@nyu.edu. The system will not let you choose blah@law.nyu.edu. Maybe the law school will let you have this alias somehow -- I don't know.
2. Choose your alias wisely. They only allow you change your email alias once per year. Make sure you really want hugsandkisses@nyu.edu before you hit submit.
I hope this helps!

Re: NYU 2012
Ok the bureaucracy is starting to annoy me. I have called ITS, the university registrar, the law school registrar and ITS. None of them seem to have any record of me (well the univeristy registrar had my name but no other information). Then they transfer me to one of the others who says I need to talk to one of the others. I sent in my deposit two and a half weeks ago and if the error message reads that my birthdate they have for me does not match the ID they have in their system how can I not be in the system? grr

Re: NYU 2012
I got that same error message, and the ITS people were able to give me my username (the abc123 code). Maybe if you try them again (after the weekend?) you'll have success. I agree that the whole process is slow and frustrating.sophie316 wrote:Ok the bureaucracy is starting to annoy me. I have called ITS, the university registrar, the law school registrar and ITS. I also received an e-mail from the financial aid office tell me they have received my tax documents and they are finalizing my award. It said we should expect more details (tuition rates, loan application procedure etc.) at the beginning of June.

September? Talk about a pipe dream. NYU Law starts two weeks earlier than the rest of the university, so orientation starts in August!
Actually, the sources conflict on precisely when, but it's clear we don't have until September.

Anyone want to call and find out which is right? I know this makes me look like a gunner, but my work needs to know when I'm leaving soon and it affects my vacation plans...argh...

I am still looking for a roommate... I am interested in splitting a 2bed or 3bed (if I could find two roommates) somewhere near the school in the village. Let me know if you're interested. A few personal notes here:

I emailed my tax docs to law.finaid@nyu.edu and got an annoying auto response. Someone else said that would work, but should I just mail it in?

This worked for me, but it took a while. I'm e-mailed them the pdf of my 1040 - I filed electronically, so if the pdf is good enough for the IRS it should be good enough for NYU!SoberHobo wrote:I emailed my tax docs to law.finaid@nyu.edu and got an annoying auto response. Re: NYU 2012
The housing website states that "All JD1 students are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday, August 19, 2009," which is the day orientation begins. Personally, I would like some time to adjust to the city and become familiar with my surroundings prior to orientation. Are others considering applying for early arrival?

Re: NYU 2012
The 19th? Dammit. That sucks. I'm gonna come back to NY August 1st or so and start my apt hunt, was hoping for more than 2 and a half weeks as I really don't want to have to move etc during orientation or after classes start. But I also don't want to spend half od July here.
Also, 13(counted them) phone calls later to 5 different offices and I finally have my NYU email address. Yay.

Wanted to get in on this thread. Haven't had a chance to read the rest of it but I sent in my deposit on Friday. Still haven't heard anything back so I guess I will call them tomorrow to confirm. That 7-10 business day thing is worrying because if it takes the full 10 business days that puts me right at the May 15th housing deadline. ugh.
As for the 19th vs 23rd, I had thought move in day was the 19th but that orientation wouldn't actually start till the 23rd.

I was equally torn, but now that I've had the chance to reflect on the decision for a few days, I am confident that I made the right choice. And if it's any further consolation - you really can't go wrong with NYU.
See you in the fall.

Re: NYU 2012
My only regret in applying to NYU is that I realized the sheer volume of stuff Columbia sent to me which I had to basically throw out. I didn't really receive all that much NYU mail, that kinda makes me sad. I can only see so many pictures of the courtyard of Vanderbilt, y'know?
