Where do you live at? If you could choose anywhere to live, where would you choose?

I live in New Graduate Residence Hall. I am happy with the decision because of the proximity to school and my friendships with fellow residents. If I could live anywhere, regardless of price, I would probably still live in New Grad. It fulfills my needs.

My one regret is that school broke into cliques midway through first quarter. Because I am down on 60th, I never got to know the Regents people as well as I would like. This is a problem because I will be living in Regents this summer, so I'll have to make new friends.

Yeah, I'm getting that impression as well. I guess it's my own fault for applying so late. Now I just need to look for something cheap in a one bedroom.

I am going to have one hell of a time figuring out a place downtown that allows SO to get to work within an hour or so while also keeping my commute at about 20 minutes (within each direction). FML.

dresden, do you have a car? A friend of mine is living in Old Towne, which is about a 20 min drive from the law school and easy access to downtown. She said it wasn't a bad price either.

Virtually no meters around the Law School. All street parking.

dresden, do you have a car? A friend of mine is living in Old Towne, which is about a 20 min drive from the law school and easy access to downtown. She said it wasn't a bad price either.

And you want a commute of 20 minutes? I very much doubt this is possible from downtown. I'd say you're looking at 30+, even from the south loop.

But I could be wrong. Anyone with actual experience on public transit commute times?

investigate living near the Metra. not too far a walk from the 59th st station to the law school and it's pretty accessible from a number of destinations. not so great late at night, but there are other transit options at those hours.

(be careful though -- there are a number of Metra lines and you want to live near the one that takes you past campus)

The Metra is also slow as hell.

with traffic in the morning, it's better than buses and certainly better than taking the red or green lines and transfering. look at the schedule: you can get from Millennium Park to 59th St in 18 minutes. Pretty damn good. --LinkRemoved--

To be fair, nobody I know at the LS takes the metra. Everyone up North either drives or takes the 6 + Brown/Purple line.

well, I'm partial to the 6 -- it's pretty dependable and it's nice to have just one monthly pass instead of having to pay for Metra + CTA. but Metra's got a nice, reliable schedule and no traffic issues.

Right. The metra in Hyde Park takes you to like Millenium Station downtown, which is basically in the theater district.

Not on the UChicago front, BUT the Cornell reserve began moving today. A few people were admitted!

My only LS related endeavour these days is reading U of C Law Review, but that's only because I really enjoy the articles (and also because they shorten my otherwise obnoxiously long train rides).

The edition I have includes some really interesting discussions of emergency legislation and a critique of Scalia's reliance on rules over discretionary standards. I am enjoying it. I am really nerdy, though.

Rules vs. standards is an Elements topic. If you have Strauss, he'll talk about it non-stop for two or three weeks.

0Ls are so confident for some reason. It's amazing. I guarantee you that you will not find a single rising 2L here who thinks that pre-law prep is necessary. I actually think it will hurt more than it will ever help, for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with me procrastinating for my Contracts final.
