Hmm...doesn't this run counter to the specified admissions criteria on the UW website? Maybe they do not give preference, but they give less weight to out-of-state? Their criteria explicitly states that they 'seek applicants who are Wisconsin residents'.Archon wrote:Take it for what it's worth, but I asked Wisconsin Admissions if Wisconsin residents are treated with preference during admissions. Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
W/L today and perfectly fine with it. I have a low (LOW) LSAT, but a pretty good GPA and decent softs. I'm a non-trad and not from Wisconsin, and I'll probably ride out the waitlist unless something better than where I have currently been accepted comes along. Submitting the LOCI......

I have a 161 and a slightly above their median GPA (from WI, too), so each time a 160 gets WLed, I freak out a bit.
161 / 4.0 and scared to see the letter.

This is rapidly looking like a wave of deny/WL (LSN certainly confirms the trend) as opposed to acceptances like we first thought.

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
for those who will hear soon or just heard, can you please post your stats? CollegeKid, any info you can share? It helps us all out.
For my 161 brothers and sisters: stay strong. Part of me says if you're above their GPA median you're OK -- look at last year on LSN, except this one guy (who I keep looking at and I suspect there was something wrong with his apps across the board), every single 3.6+, 161+ got in. On the other hand, with all of this WL activity who knows in this economy.
As for WI mattering: I was told that there is no mandate but there is a "slight" bump. I suspect at the 161 level, it's pretty important. Then again, that's what I am praying for so this might be a case of me hoping for the best.

Well, even though I was told my decision had been sent (I live chatted on Friday), still nothing. Sigh.

Take that back - nothing, minus a scholarship from Penn State. While nice, I withdrew my application a month ago. Hmm.robi0468 wrote:

Re: Wisconsin-Madison 2012!!!
I got my rejection letter from UW last Friday (in this wonderful January wave). And then I got awful thirsty...
But I was curious if anyone has info on the way they view IP oriented apps. I'm 3.0 LSDAS/160, 3 years out, with a background in bio academic and pharmaceutical research... I thought perhaps my science background would provide the "diversity" UW seeks...any ideas?

From the looks of it, the diversity Wisconsin is seeking from non-URMs is 162 or higher with a solid UGPA. I'm not sure they really pay much attention to the rest.

If you're the average kid, then yes you would need a 162+high GPA.Archon wrote:From the looks of it, the diversity Wisconsin is seeking from non-URMs is 162 or higher with a solid UGPA. I'm not sure they really pay much attention to the rest.
