Cheapest flight for me was into Richmond - added benefit is it's a lot closer to Charlottesville than BWI or Dulles.skyisthelimit wrote:for ASW are you all flying into charlottesville or somewhere else? flights into charlottesville aren't cheap.
i'm thinking of flying into dulles, renting a car, and driving down b/c i can use a frequent flier reward into dulles. does this make sense? it's 2 hours.
i'm thinking that even if i fly into charlottesville i'd rent a car, or is that unnecessary for ASW?

Thanks, 6.5 hours train at around $170-200 vs. 3.5 hours flight at $229 (flight) + $20 cab to airportgladiator wrote:Amtrak- NY Penn Station to Charlottesvillelegends159 wrote:how the heck can I get to UVA from NYC if I can't drive? Is the only option to fly directly into Charlottesville?
hm...decisions decisions.
If possible I'd like to fly into Richmond and then take a train/bus to Charlottesville. Does anyone know if that's too inconvenient? That'd be $139 (flight) +$20 cab plus whatever public transportation take me to Charlottesville

If you're going to be attending UVA and use Amtrak frequently, you can get a Student Advantage card to get 15% off all Amtrak trips. I think it's like $20 for a few year membership that pays for itself in 1 or 2 trips.

If you go to the admitted students page you'll see a nice list of books to get you started, congrats and good luck!LiveDukeorDie wrote:Hi! I am in at UVA! Yay. Does anyone know what you are doing for housing etc? I am super excited about UVA. Yipppeee! What should I do to prep for Law School?

Good suggestion, TaoTao. The books are great recommendations because they're engaging and enjoyable in a leisurely sense but also somewhat academic and related to legal theory. According to most 1Ls there's nothing you can really do to prepare or get a leg up before law school, so I think those books are more to keep your brain functioning at a decent level so it's not a total shock when August comes around.TaoTao wrote:If you go to the admitted students page you'll see a nice list of books to get you started, congrats and good luck!LiveDukeorDie wrote:Hi! I'm reading Blank Slate and A Civil Action right now and enjoying both. It's a refreshing break from the mind numbing work in my office.

Amtrak is easier from DC. I think there is only one train a day from Richmond to C-ville and it's a train/bus split. From Richmond, I'd recommend renting a car; it's a straight shot on the highway. You could also do Greyhound from Richmond to Charlottesville. Richmond's Greyhound station is less than 10 miles from the airport. Greyhound I believe runs to C-ville 3 times a day (early am, noon, and pm).legends159 wrote:Thanks, 6.5 hours train at around $170-200 vs. 3.5 hours flight at $229 (flight) + $20 cab to airportgladiator wrote:Amtrak- NY Penn Station to Charlottesvillelegends159 wrote:how the heck can I get to UVA from NYC if I can't drive? Don't read the books . . . go out and have fun!! Enjoy the summer break! The books make no difference, because all of your profs teach as though your mind is a blank slate anywaysjsporter wrote:Good suggestion, TaoTao. Hey who says you can't do both? I'm definitely reading them more for enjoyment factor than brain function. After looking at thousands of legal documents at work, any great work of non-fiction is a tremendous mental reward.J-Rod wrote:Don't read the books . . . go out and have fun!! Enjoy the summer break! What kind of housing would you be interested in? Are you young and single, or old, married, and crotchety like me?
As for law prep, I'm trying to pass the patent bar before I go to school, but other than that I'm just chillin.

read A Civil Action. It's enjoyable to read, and my civpro professor devoted about 10 classes throughout the semester to applying what we learned to the book.
