Re: Chapman Class of 2012
Hmm I wonder when we can start using the facilities? For example I would LOVE to know when I can start hitting their gym across the street on the undergrad campus.... (side note, feels SO strange to be talking about undergrads and not being a part of that term)
Perhaps when we get out I.D. cards..so the week before at orientation? That would be a bummer.
I say we try and get people to go out for drinks after the BBQ in the circle as to all get to know each other better without the more stuffy atmosphere. Any takers?

That's exactly when... you have to scan your ID at the front desk in the gym. Unless, of course, whatever student worker on duty at the time doesn't care (which is quite possible).BrookeB wrote:Perhaps when we get out I.D. cards..so the week before at orientation? That would be a bummer.
Let me know if you guys have any questions, I went there for undergrad and will be 2L there in the fall.

Hey guys, I'm in at Chapman as well!!! I was admitted early last week
Won't be able to attend the BBQ though.
Can't wait to find out our sections! Hopefully some of us will be in the same ones.

Not our sections exactly, but individual section schedules as of June 24th

Oh and good luck, djbunny!!!

Re: Chapman Class of 2012
Yea I somehow stumbled across that a week ago too...was never able to find my way back to it. If I could choose any I would want section 3 for sure! Def not section 2 because the times are way too spaced out looking, I am terrible with classes extending past 4pm for some reason. And section 1 has Doti, which rate my professor claims has a super sexist teacher...however he teaches one out of the two contracts, so there is always the possibility of not having him even in section 1.
So for books, are you all going to just get them at the book store during orientation, or are any of you going to try and get them used off of amazon or craigslist in hopes of getting them in time?

When you find out what track you're in, let me know if you want books for Stahl, Peikoff, Noyes, or Carey. All of them are slightly highlighted (especially the property book, which I bought used)... but maybe it'll help you, I did well, haha.
The bookstore is a ripoff - if you can get them online in time, I highly suggest it... wish I had. There's also a law bookstore in Anaheim that is slightly less of a ripoff. PM me if you're interested.
BTW, I might end up being a "big brother" to one of you... not a fraternity thing, just something the school does for every incoming class.

I have heard the same advice from my sister, graduated from Loyola Law this year. She said never to buy books at the bookstore. She said to go on Amazon.com, textbook.com and other sites. She said you can order them on a rush, guaranteed in 2 days and you can save a lot of money even though you are paying a rush fee.
That is what I am going to do. I just wish I knew what section I was in and what books were required so I could order them now.

Yeah that's definitely a good plan. If I remember right, we didn't find out what track we were in until orientation last year, so you may need to borrow or share a book for a few days to make it work.

Well, we can place our orders wednesday night, pay the extra fee for express shipping and it has thursday friday and saturday to get there on time. ::shrug:: I think it would make it by Friday even for express. The extra shipping cost might be worth it

Wait, are we talking used books?BrookeB wrote:Well, we can place our orders wednesday night, pay the extra fee for express shipping and it has thursday friday and saturday to get there on time. ::shrug:: I think it would make it by Friday even for express. The extra shipping cost might be worth it
If it's through Amazon they would make it on time for sure if ordered on Wednesday, but I'm a little wary of individual sellers. I've had some horrible experiences with Amazon/half.com/etc. sellers :/. Though, through Amazon itself has always proven cheaper for me than through university bookstores, so either way we may still be saving money.
And thanks, JOE! Always so helpful!

I think first year students always want "new". I think as you become a 2nd and 3rd year you don't care as much and at times it can be helpful if there are a few markings.BrookeB wrote:Yea Im more talking new books. I personally don't care if it is new or used, as long as it is the right edition and it is not trashed. I guess I'm going for minimally used.

BTW what are all your thoughts on orientation? Oh man its from like 8am to 8pm for 3 days in a row. Brutal.
Anyone getting their ID card and parking permit early? Getting a locker for the year?
I still havent decided what business casual means to me. Blah. 3 solid days pretty much just means that we start school the 19th, not the 24th. haha

Re: Chapman Class of 2012
Orientation wasn't all that bad from what I remember... pretty sure Friday was just until lunchtime and then it was just a BBQ and time to take care of things you forgot. Mostly it's just to make sure you're ready for classes to start. If they're doing an "en banc," you should definitely go even if it's optional... basically it's just an excuse to drink free beer/wine and hang out.BrookeB wrote:BTW what are all your thoughts on orientation? I highly recommend a locker... although if you don't want to pay whatever the fee is, you could just leave your books in your car.
As for business casual - assuming you're a woman, I can't help, haha.

LOL, oh goodness, for some reason I was really excited about getting a locker I didn't even think about leaving my books in my car...JOE! wrote:I highly recommend a locker... although if you don't want to pay whatever the fee is, you could just leave your books in your car.BrookeB wrote:BTW what are all your thoughts on orientation? and uGh, I'm in the same boat as Brooke... I have no idea what business casual is for us. I feel like it always varies from place to place/event to event so whenever it's something/somewhere new I always worry about dressing too casual or too formal. Guys ALWAYS have it easier, don't they?

Sundress and wedges maybe? Thats gonna be me, works for most situations. Haha yea I am kinda excited about the idea of a locker, its SOOO high school that I kinda love it. Itll be nice to not have to lug around books everywhere.
Yes free wine and food, I am so down for that!

My fiance just described business casual as slacks / skirt and a nice blouse, if that helps.
Yep. And I'm very grateful for that, haha.ria29 wrote:Guys ALWAYS have it easier, don't they?
