Re: Columbia Law School 2012!
I'm hurt guys! I mean I know I am not a fixture like Booya but comon I told you guys I already moved in!
Here is a breakdown of the procedure:
First, make sure you come early- before 3:30. The supers leave and they are the only ones with a key.... (If you are going to be late call up and let them know your coming and that you'll be late. Tell them the apartment you plan on moving into and ask them if the super can LEAVE THE KEY with UAH before he leaves! (Bad experience... Showed up but couldn't move in..)
You need those passport pictures but don't sweat it if you don't have any. There are two places you can get them done instantly right next to the leasing office and they will point you where to go....
Lets see... You sign the lease, the paper that releases them from lead poisoning, get the lead brochures. Sign that there wont be any 7 year olds living with you get a paper on info about con-ed time-warner and a map of campus and surrounding areas. Also, some sort of sheet of which stores you can pick up basic items from.... (and probably a couple other things I am forgetting...)
Then your done, pretty easy and quick probably takes 10-25 minutes (depending on if you read it all or not
)
They give you a paper to take to the super of your building and he gives you the key.....
Excited for you guys to start moving in, it's pretty slow down here.... (Booya we gots to get together when you come down here!)

I'm coming up 8/1, guys. Plan on relaxing, setting up my easel, gettin' my paint on. Also, would anyone be down for seeing some movies at Bryant Park? They show movies on the lawn (BYOB) on Monday nights, and August 3rd is Kramer vs. Kramer.

I don't fly in until the night of the 10th, so I'm afraid I'll be missing all the Bryant Park movies. (Close Encounters of the Third Kind is on the 17th, but I have a feeling those Orientation evenings are going to be pretty crowded with parties as it is).

Yes. Wanna help me break in my bar next week?SleekFire wrote: Excited for you guys to start moving in, it's pretty slow down here.... (Booya we gots to get together when you come down here!)
Also, do you know where there's parking when you move in? My mom is very concerned about this and has asked me several hundred times in the past week.

Ha, nooo, my mom just wants to know where to park when we move in. It doesn't make sense to have a car in NYC.sbalive wrote:Wait - some of you are going to have a car? Awesome. During the summer its easier to find parking....
Its kinda a hit or miss with the curbside... but you can find...
There is probably a place to pay let me see if I can find out... (I don't have a car cause like you said doesn't make sense here but i Will try to find out...)
Where you moving to Ill check out the block....

Sigh, too bad. I was hoping that someone from North Dakota drives theirs in, so we can take advantage of it.booyakasha45 wrote:Ha, nooo, my mom just wants to know where to park when we move in. It doesn't make sense to have a car in NYC.

Yes, I was disappointed. I have a couple friends who went to CLS and they told me my assignment was about as far away from the law school as UAH housing gets.MeTalkPrettyOneDay wrote:Sorry about the rough UAH assignment. That's brutal. Check out the CLS Forums (linked through AdmitNet and LawNet). You'll find a whole forum dedicated to housing. Good luck!particleman wrote:Hey everyone. Has there been any discussion about roommates for off-campus housing? My UAH assignment was terrible so I declined and now I'm looking for a 2BR near campus. Anyone out there need a roommate?
Is everyone here living in UAH housing??

Re: Columbia Law School 2012!
Yes, mine is far away too, 122nd, but I didn't want to worry about looking for housing. Probably a mistake, but a lot of Craigslist ads are for people to take over leases and I don't want my new roommates to abandon me when they lose their jobs. I'm hoping I can find people to apartment-hunt with for 2L/3L.particleman wrote:Yes, I was disappointed. I have a question I should know the answer to, but give me a break, I'm abroad and all my acceptance materials are at home:
Do we need to do anything enroll in Columbia health insurance (I don't need early enrollment)? Or is it done automatically? If we do need to do anything, what?

TECHNICALLY it's automatic, but you still need to confirm it on the website (very easy, one step).imchuckbass58 wrote:I have a question I should know the answer to, but give me a break, I'm abroad and all my acceptance materials are at home:

Re: Columbia Law School 2012!
Hey, so I'm trying to get my Columbia email off the IMAP server - I can get incoming mail, but I can't send mail. I've got it set up for send.columbia.edu as the outgoing server, SSL authentication is ON, and I tried the default port # and when that didn't work tried port 25 like it shows in the online example (I also tried 465, which was suggested in the SMTP help page online). Still can't send anything. Does anyone have any advice? (Or is everyone just forwarding it?)

About the first.last@law.columbia.edu e-mail addresses:
They forward to your @columbia.edu e-mail addresses. I've just confirmed this with 2 test e-mails. One from my UG e-mail and one from facebook. This is going on my resume...
NOW, if we can just figure out how to send e-mails from it, we're set. I e-mailed admit@law.columbia.edu about this in a two-question e-mail. They conveniently ignored the e-mail question and just answered the other one about my financial aid entrance interview.

Use an outside client, like G-mail. Set first.last@law.columbia.edu as one of your accounts, then confirm that you can send e-mail from it on G-mail.cal09squint wrote:About the first.last@law.columbia.edu e-mail addresses:

Sorry to ask this again, but how do we set up first.last@law.columbia.edu in the first place? I must've missed that post.

Re: Columbia Law School 2012!
I haven't really kept up with this post, well, ever. But to my knowledge, we didn't set up the first.last@law.columbia.edu addresses. We were told that they were for faculty/staff only somewhere in the paperwork we went through, but then the addresses magically appeared in our user profiles. We don't know the passwords. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. By the way, Lem37, thanks for the gmail idea. I got it to work. I can now officially send and receive from my @law.columbia.edu address. You know it's one of those slow summer days when this is the highlight of your day.
Edit: Another way to do get "official." Log-in to your @columbia.edu address, go to options, then change the address you appear as to your first.last@law.columbia.edu address.
