Absolutely fantastic! The service day got a bit tiring, but it wasn't anything horrible, and I'm glad we did it.

We start classes today in about an hour and a half, and I'm so excited! Everything that's happened the last 2-3 days reminds me again and again why Michigan was the right choice for me.

Tomorrow is insane. They have us scheduled for a 'Service Day' from 730am - 200pm. Are you kidding me? We've got class on Thursday, and reading assignments for Torts and Civ Pro. We've got 10 dozen things we need to do in a relatively short amount of time, some don't even have textbooks yet, and they want to hijack our day for volunteer work?! Is this really the best use of our limited time before classes begin? Why not give us a library tour, or something actually useful to us as incoming 1Ls? I don't want to knock volunteer work, I think it's a great part of life. It IS important to give back. But try to 1. not make it mandatory. 2. not schedule an ENTIRE DAY'S WORTH RIGHT BEFORE OUR CLASSES START

You're going to be here for three years. Chill out, or you won't even make it through the first month. Also, be less selfish.

I found a studio yesterday! 4 blocks away from the law school and it is dog-friendly (that was a hard one), I am so happy and it feels like a big weight has lifted off my shoulder. The only problem is the move in date is on the 23rd and law school starts around there yes? I'm hoping to work something out with the current tenant. Crossing my fingers.

I have a tv now, and I find it's nice to have on for the news in the morning when I eat breakfast and at night after I'm done studying and want to watch something mindless to decompress. It's definitely not a necessity though, but I think there will be time to watch tv, if you seek to make time for it.

I think the school provides some housing during MAP for people who need it. Check the original e-mail about the program

Law school is not prison.

I seriously don't know if people are joking when they ask these questions or if they're serious. If you've ever worked a full-time job, you will have the exact same amount of free time (except during finals when there is no free-time, but you probably won't care at this time anyway).

These are the things I like to hear. The majority of the law school workload paranoia that I hear about all comes from 0L's. Most of the current students that I've met all seem to have some semblance of a life outside of law school work. Sure, I'm nervous about the workload, because I was an arts major and never really had to do a TON of studying in any particular semester, but I couldn't fathom staying SANE unless I had some sort of free time during the week - whether that's getting sucked into some lame reality TV show, going to saturday football games, playing an IM sport, or whatever.

I'd also recommend seeking out something besides law school related things to do, apart from other law students. I really like the people in my classes, and I'm looking forward to getting to know them better, but I can already tell that a section of 22 students is going to get stifling, fast, unless I spend some regular time outside of this environment. Michigan recommends volunteer work in the local community, and I think that's what I'm going to do.
