where are you guys thinkin of living?
Are you doing this for financial reasons? If so, Emeryville would not make economic sense (just as expense as SF) but El Cerrito could make it worthwhile, though that commute would be blah, imo.

you're right, in strictly monetary terms, emeryville is not that far off from sf. however, you can find similarly priced one bedroom apartments/studios with much more square footage in emeryville. also, the area is pretty nice and allows you to escape a little bit from the rush of the city. i'm also trying to think about where i'm going to keep my car, knowing parking is cheaper in east bay than in sf.

that being said, there are of course many distinct advantages to living in the city (shorter commute, for one). i would really love to live in mcallister tower, i just don't kno wat i'm gonna do with my car. any suggestions?

That's my problem with the tower. Fox Plaza apparently has spots for rent in their complex nearby. Also monthly passes are available in the structure under the civic center park, although I've been told there is a long wait list for cars, for motorcycles they consistently have monthly available. The lot under the park is not 24 hour access however, not sure about Fox Plaza.

Does anyone know much about the tower/specifically about the size of one bedrooms? I was just offered a spot in a one bedroom on the 9th floor. I've heard that anywhere below the 13th or so floor gets tons of noise pollution and virtually no views. That doesn't really make the tower hugely attractive especially at nearly $1400 a month. The housing office also isn't willing to show the units before signing!

How much does Fox Plaza charge per month for cars?

as you can read on that page, a parking garage is being built and will be ready this fall. i called them and they confirmed it will be ready to go for the fall but pricing information probably won't be available for a few months. so you're pretty much at their mercy if you commit to the tower now and have to have your car...

Yeah, I figured they'd be small, but I'm fine with it. I also couldn't afford much more...

I'm coming from SD and plan to be in around Aug. 15th. Possibly a bit earlier, but most likely not.

As someone who lives in the Bay Area but not in SF, I can definitely say that it is NOT the same at all. If you want the experience of San Francisco, live there. The suburbs around here are nice.. I love my home town. However, an hour commute each way is a HUGE chunk of time to lose! And imagine not having access to the library whenever you want.. I'll definitely be living in SF proper, close to Hastings (but definitely not in the Tenderloin). :)

If you already have health insurance you just fill out a waiver stating you don't need the plan provided by Hastings. For whatever reasons students are required to have insurance so it's something you opt out of rather than opt in on.

2013hopeful... How late did you apply? I applied right before the deadline and I was accepted sometime in march. LSAT 160 UGPA 3.85. But, my LSDAS GPA is much lower... I graduated in HS in 1998. Struggled in Junior College before enlisting in Marines- that type of story.

Congrats on your quick acceptance Stayawake! I applied right before the deadline too. Literally a day or two before. My numbers are no where as good as yours which explains why you have already heard back and I haven't. I have a 158 LSAT and an overall GPA of 3.1 but my last two years (out of 3 total) was about a 3.9. I had to drop out for family reasons and when I came back my grades were a lot better so I was hoping that they would take my grade trend into consideration. I've pretty much given up hope though :( My original plan was to apply to start in 2010 so I will probably have to do that since I only applied to Hastings and SCU and haven't heard from either one. Oh well, hopefully I'll have better luck next year.

Anyone have an estimate of what it is going to cost for McAllister housing, food, and other related expenses per 9 month period? I'm trying to figure my total expenses out before accepting Gradplus, so I know if I should decrease my loan amount. Thanks!

well, if you got housing in the tower, you should know what it's going to cost already. for other stuff, the hastings website has estimates: --LinkRemoved-- . their estimates seem reasonable...

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
