Naw, weekly quiz, Miller is a tough grader, Miller is a little crazy, etc. I'll do it 2L. I have civ pro, contracs, and crim this semester, so it's going to be tough already.

Gotcha. I knew there were quizzes, but are they definitely every week? I wonder what happens if you miss one. I'm going to miss a week of class in March, and he told me that was fine, as long as I save up my allowed misses to use them then.

he has an oppressive attendance policy, too. I'm mr. attendance usually, but I don't want to get mono and fail the class.

Whee! We'll have 2 classes together (I'm gonna suck it up and stay in 1A, despite my slothlike desire for a breezy last semester. I heart Don).Alexandria wrote:Oh wait, you are in FA? I thought you wanted RL bc you heart Laycock.PKSebben wrote:cyberlaw

After Remedies exam that was a quick change of heart. That exam was brutal. I'll take RL when I can afford another pass/fail.
I do <3 Laycock though. He's a smartie-pants.

Yeah, I still have both priorities, even though I keep trying to use them. It's a good system, it seems.awesomepossum wrote:law and development.
I was psyched that they didn't use my priority! I guess it's true that they only take your priority if they actually use it.

Nope. I signed up for it during Round 1 (who knew that you could get a seminar AND a practice simulation in Round 1? I sure didn't). I still have a priority left that I've been trying to offload for 3 semesters.Alexandria wrote:Yayyyyy! Did you have to use a priority to get into ADR?
I'm excited – it's right up my alley, Kantor is a doll, and it's supposed to be easy as pie.

I eventually want to take something besides Ethics that fulfills that requirement.
Also, the Mediation thing you took (I know it doesn't fulfill it) sounds really cool, so I hope they offer it next year. I think I would be a super good mediator. Not to be arrogant. But I do think that.

I know that Frank would like to offer it again, but I think they're having a hard time lining up the training (since it's run through ICLE). And mediation opportunities were an issue – we had to do our mediations up in Flint, which was a flaming pain in the ass.

I had a hilarious run-in with him. I've never taken anything with him, but he's, umm, noticeable. Anyway, I was in the Legal Research elevator with a couple of other students. One of them was bitching about X, and someone in the elevator didn't know who he was. So we all start in with stories and descriptions, everyone gets all worked up (even the admin. asst. who was in there with us), the elevator stops . . . and he steps on. Wow that was awkward.PKSebben wrote:Yeah, Prof X is a little ridiculous.

Where does everyone plan on living their 1L year? Specifically, those who are starting in the summer. I've found a ton of places on Craigslist that are pretty cheap, but at the same time, I think it may be best to live on campus for a year in order to make some friends quickly.

You'll have no problem meeting people regardless....you're with the same people ALL THE TIME just because of classes your 1L year. Besides that, the social events are pretty well publicized.
If you really want to meet people quickly, my suggestion is do MAP. I met most of my close friends in MAP before orientation even started.

Re: Michigan 2012
It's a program that lets you come to Michigan about a week before orientation and do a "pre-orientation". It's totally optional. Once upon a time it was a program that was for minorities to get used to being in law school. Now it's open to everybody. It's free and they even set you up in a hotel on their dime.
They have some mock classes and tell you how to study for law school and so on and so forth. That part is... eh.... ok. But the great part is that you have a lot of social time with other 1Ls while you have pretty much no work. You basically shore up your liver and enjoy the week.

MAP sounds like something I should look into. Thanks. I'm so pumped to attend this school.

Yeah, I really liked MAP, too, mostly for social reasons! I felt like those of us who did MAP knew a lot more people outside our sections, especially early on and especially if you don't live in the LC.

Yeah, I agree with this. I was really irked by the events that they had planned, and more happy about the real social hours. They have some mock classes and tell you how to study for law school and so on and so forth.
