Re: UVA Class of 2012
ASW is optional and perhaps more geared towards people who are considering UVA but have not yet made up their minds about where to go to law school (it's before the first deposit date in April). Orientation is right before classes start, I think, and it's for people who are actually going to be students at UVA.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
I'm 50/50 on going to ASD. I am not able to go to the first one so I'm looking to go for the 27th-28th. I figure it'd be worth the money to meet some TLSers and look for housing (I'm going to have to make a trip or two in the spring for that anyway). Also I'm in the early stages of trying to help my SO find a job in the Charlottesville area. Equally, though, I'm not sure how the actual ASD events are going to apply to me if the main goal is try to sell admitted students on UVA. I'm already sold.
Any other ED people going? 14th or the 28th? Feel free to convince me that I need to be there!

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Like I said, I'm mostly going to look at housing. And being on the West Coast, it's not like it's easy for me to swing down to UVA on any given weekend. I figure I have to go at least ONCE before I move to C'Ville, so I might as well go during ASW so I can participate in the events.

I'll be there, although I have not decided what day. For me it is very convenient since I only live 1hr away from C-ville.jsporter wrote:I'm 50/50 on going to ASD. Re: UVA Class of 2012
I'm 50/50 as well. I will definitely be visiting (probably several times) in the spring looking for a job for my SO and housing, but I don't know about the ASW yet. I'd like to meet some fellow c/o 2012ers but if it's mostly admitted rather than committed students I'm on the fence.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Hey everyone, I just wanted to throw my name out here. I am pretty new to TLS and have almost never posted before but I am another UVa EDer so I am definitely attending and wanted to meet you all.
I am from the northeast and I attend UVa for undergrad so I thought I could be helpful with questions about the area, the distances of things, what the culture is like down here (especially for someone who came from up north) and anything else that I might know about.
Please don't hesitate to respond to me or PM me if you feel more comfortable. I look forward to meeting you all.

I'm definitely going to ASD I'm not sure which one but I'm certainly leaning towards the first rather than the second. I just thought it would be a good chance to meet people and see the campus at the same time. Granted I'm living in NYC right now and there is a bus that goes from NYC to C'ville pretty frequently.

Thanks so much RTF.
And anyone who is going to ASD should definitely take a tour around the city and I would be happy to show you all the good bars, restaurants, places to go, etc.
Charlottesville is definitely a lot of fun and I say this coming from a pretty big city.

So I'm on the waitlist at Jeffersonian. Anyone else looking at living at Jeffersonian apartments? It's cheap and close to the law school which is all I need.

I wouldn't go to ASW if I were accepted ED unless I just wanted to go there and let them try to reassure me of my decision. I thought the purpose of ASW was to convince admitted students to attend, not just show you around.pithypike wrote:Am I the only one who will see UVA for the first time at orientation? I'm going to see my family too. But if they weren't there, I probably wouldn't go.chadstew55 wrote:I wouldn't go to ASW if I were accepted ED unless I just wanted to go there and let them try to reassure me of my decision. Re: UVA Class of 2012
I live in a 4 bed/4 bath apartment on Arlington (5 min walk to school, 1 min walk to shopping center) and 1 of my roommates is moving out so we might have an opening if any of you are interested. It's me (male 1L, 22) and 2 other current male 1Ls, 22 and 26. The rent, assuming they don't raise it, is $565 including utilities. Send me a PM if you're interested, male or female.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Speaking of roommates... has anyone of the Class of 2012 had any success finding someone? I know there is the housing website but no one (including myself) has posted. Just want to make sure everything is in order and I don't get left behind.
For anyone at UVa Law right now, any suggestions? Should I just wait until March when most of the class has been filled? Thanks.

Re: UVA Class of 2012
There are a couple options for UVa housing websites in general (not sure how many times people have suggested these)
I dont know the rules about posting links, but you have:
onthegrounds.com and hoohasit.com which are general (a lot of undergrad) but there are specific sections for people looking for roomates
http://uvastudentcouncil.com/offgrounds which is the student council website for offgrounds housing (law school reps do serve on the student council)
people post on craig's list also. and you have the housing section of the law website.
it might be easier when more people are accepted though

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Speaking of this site, is anyone else interested in paying $2000/month to live in that massive country estate? Only $8500/mo for 4 bedrooms! 1L party house FTW.jase1348 wrote:http://uvastudentcouncil.com/offgrounds which is the student council website for offgrounds housing (law school reps do serve on the student council)

More seriously, though, I've found a few reasonably priced houses on there I'd love to go after, but they'd all require 2-4 roomates.
Edit: my only hangup is I can't really commit to anything until I get out there in March. And at this point it's still 50/50 on my SO moving to Virginia - but if I could find a place with large bedrooms I suppose it won't matter and I could commit without knowing her status.

There are two places on there that qualify as bawler status without breaking the bank. Like $600-700/mo per person - both four bedrooms. One is a colonial near campus, the other is a 4500 sq. ft. country estate ~10 miles outside of town but possibly worth it considering that's a ton of space for four people.
