just read this more carefully... is this true?! i can't believe there are dozens of people in the world with my (embarrassing) initials, let alone in the georgetown network!!! makes me feel a little bit better though :D

Yup, that's where you fall in line. It's always a fun thing to find someone without any numbers after their last names. It means your the first. There are less than 10 with my initials. I guess there were a lot of other parents who were not thinking initials when they named their children! It sucks, but give it a shot, maybe you'll get lucky. But it is fun to have an netid/email address.

Thanks for the encouragement re: B-school. I dunno, I was kind of up in the air about it and still am, but recently I've been leaning towards getting out into the workforce asap to get rid of some of this soul-crushing debt. We'll see.
That's the only area in which Georgetown disappoints. Not that practical in teachings (at least in my areas) and no business concentration. I'm going to make my own based on bus. curriculum from UVa and Vandy. Actually pretty easy, and I've got enough degrees as is.
Have you seen this page? http://www.law.georgetown.edu/curriculu ... ourses.cfm

While you are technically correct in saying that there is no "business concentration" (because Georgetown doesn't offer concentrations/certificates at all), there is the JD/MBA Joint Degree program and there are several course clusters in "business law": Administrative Law; Antitrust Law; Commercial and Advanced Contract Law; Communications Law; Corporate Law and Securities Regulation; Employment and Labor Law; Intellectual Property, Entertainment, and Technology Law... and several more. Georgetown offers far more course options in "business law" (and probably just about any other specialty, as well) than does any other school in the country (except maybe Harvard); you just have to be more specific about what KIND of business law.

Oh yeah-- and you can also take classes at the main campus (under a different program) AND have those credits count toward your JD (a reasonable number of credits, at least) as long as you can justify the applicability of the course to your course of study and future plans.
Yeah, I've seen the page. I already have too much schooling to go after a joint degree. I can already see my wife's face as I tell her I want an MBA under the Christmas tree also.

And I definitely agree, the number of course listings at Georgetown is phenomenal. I just wish it was organized as a concentration etc. so there would be advisers and more coherency regarding the program.

Good to see some action in this thread. Now that you have your netid can you login to OCS pages? I would do it myself but I haven't been back at my apartment for a few days. :( I'm sure I'm not the only one who's curious...

You can indeed log into OCS. I've checked it out. There isn't really much on there that's pertinent right now. There is a lot of information that will be helpful in the long run. But you get a good idea of OCI firms and cutoffs.

Well not cutoffs, but their GPA general requirements. Like A, B+, that kind of thing. What did you mean by cutoff? I guess I meant something a bit broader. Sorry!

I'd probably be a Zelda geek if I grew up on the SNES and the N64. Instead, I chose the Genesis and the Playstation.

I'm curious as to exactly how I should get these signed immunization forms to GULC's Health folks. Is there a number I can fax them to, or do I just have to mail them?

Hmm, good question. I didn't have to do them. If you're over the age of 26 (I'm pretty sure 26 was the cutoff), you don't have to submit anything. I called and asked about the form, and when the Director of Admissions told me that, I said, "Oh good, 'cause I'm pretty sure my pediatrician is dead by now!" So to my fellow non-trads: save yourself the hassle of hunting down elderly pediatricians (or their ghosts) and immunization forms... yay for being old (for once)!

How does that make sense? I mean, good for you, but are they somehow assuming that people over the age of 26 can't have tuberculosis or whatever?

Eh, I had like 9,734,266 shots when I was a kid. I seriously remember going in for shots like every few months for the first several years of my life. I think they used to over-vaccinate us before the autism boom/scare, so maybe we had some sort of vaccine? Total stab in the dark here...

Or maybe they just figure that if we were going to sleep with rock/porn stars and contract TB, we'd have gotten that out of the way in our early twenties :?:

Does anyone know when the date of registration is? Because I turn 26 in late August, and I think the immunization form says that if you're 26 at the date of registration (for classes, I assume) you don't need to fill out the form. I really don't want to do the legwork of tracking down my old doctor (who's retired or dead or something) and/or paying some new doctor (I'm uninsured) to look at my immunization records and sign her name on the form. It would be nice if registration is August 29 or later, because that would make my life easier. And life is like so hard for me, you guys.

I'm only twenty-five this September...now I feel young. 8)

Also, pencil this in! I'm "forcing" you all to go out with me on Saturday, September 5th to celebrate my 25th Birthday.
No excuses.
(Hey, I don't want to have to celebrate my birthday alone and I'll know hardly anyone in DC that early in the semester. Drastic times call for drastic measures.)

(Well, okay, I'll excuse you if you don't drink alcohol. Maybe.)

According to http://www.law.georgetown.edu/admission ... dlines.cfm, registration for FT students is August 26-28 (PT students are the 25th). It also says that you can get approval to register late if you do so by August 8th. I would call or email if I were you and explain the situation. They've been ubercool to me so far.

I drink alcohol! I actually might do a half marathon that morning in Virginia Beach, which would mean that I would SOOO deserve a cocktail afterward. Or else I will want to drink because I was a loser who didn't do the half-marathon.

Thanks! It looks like I just missed the cutoff. Oh well. I'll have to make up for this disappointment by drinking at AceofDiamonds' birthday night.

Don't worry dude, we've already talked about another TLS bar night in DC sometime in between Gee-whiz move in day (Aug 23rd I believe) and the first day of classes. When we set a place/date I'll post it in this thread.

good question, i'm looking too. i've started to look online and it seems like all the apartments that are super-close to campus are either too expensive or major shitholes.

As for the immunization form, I think even if you are over 26 you still have to turn it in saying that you haven't lived in pretty much anywhere else in the world, but the US, Canada, and western Europe. If you haven't lived in any of those places. It's on the second page and it says "Required of all students." If you don't meet the requirements of Part III you just sign and turn it in. They still need that form, even if you are over 26. You CAN'T register w/o it. It's super easy to fill out and then you don't have to worry about late-registration.

As for the living situation: Mass Court, Senate Square, Meridian at Gallery Place, or check out Craigslist. I'm sure there are some upperclass students looking for roommates. Right about now though, I'm kind of wishing I just went with the dorms. Once you factor in buying new furniture, it will probably all come out to the same price anyway. I'm going to be living in Senate Square. Anyone want to walk a lady home late at night? I have heard it's a tiny it sketch. I'm thinking a walkpool might be helpful for those who liked the price, but not the possibility of getting mugged.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
