I am starting to give up hope that I will be removed from the Arbor and put in someplace I like. So I am looking at apartments all over including Harlem. But I heard that you can't walk East to West through Morningside Park. Morningside Drive is basically a wall that you have to walk around by going down to 110th street or up to 123rd street. Is that really true? Is there no place to cross through the Park from Harlem and end up on campus?
You can definitely walk through the park (you'll need to ready for a lot of stairs), but I wouldn't do it at night. I'm sure ~99% of the time you'd be fine at night too, but I wouldn't take that risk. Parks at night in NYC are not the places you generally want to be.

Thanks for the help. How many crossing points are of Morningside Drive through the park? Do you know a site I might be able to find this out?

Have you checked Street View in Google Maps? It covers all along Morningside Drive, so you could potentially look for staircases.

It's obvious that people whose parents are most annoying get their assignments last.

+1 on being nervous about the housing assignments. And I'm not usually a worrier... but this Arbor business has me a bit uneasy. Riverdale? W T Fuck?

Nice new 'tar, Booya

Check this sweet info out, courtesy of the Travel Section: http://frugaltraveler.blogs.nytimes.com ... uy-a-beer/

The article lists a bunch of bars in the City (and Brooklyn) that provide free food as long as you buy a drink (or drinks). The free food varies by bar, from pizza to munchies to buff wings to bagels.

Sounds awesome to me. Who's down to drink excessively and eat for free?

Let's do it. We should try to get some CLS people together in the city before school starts; the TLS meetup yesterday was pretty successful.

As we've demonstrated time and time again on here, I think we're all gonna get along just fine :D

What was the meet up like yesterday? I woulda gone, but I'm still recovering from getting my wisdom teeth out. (Got em out Friday... I look like I took a sucker punch to the left jaw.)

You arrive on the same day I do. This seems like a good reason to drink.

We could wait till then, and do something pre-orientation, that way most people will be there already and we can get a big group together.

"Drunk" is how I would describe the meetup yesterday. It was a good time, though. Everyone was pretty chill and got along well. I'm also pleasantly surprised by the general level of attractiveness of TLSers.

I ams also definitely down for a pre-orientation meet-up. Not sure when I'm moving in yet because I am among the many that have yet to receive a housing assignment and move-in date but I requested the first week of August...

We should definitely do at least one pre-orientation meet. Perhaps a string of house-warming parties as people get their apartments furnished with the basics, or something along those lines.

Meanwhile, is everyone ready for another day of hopefully checking their inbox for an offer of housing?

I'll have a party. I'm trying to get a decent variety of alcohol for my apartment before I run out of money..

Nothing on the housing front. Sigh.
