Just remember that it is a hell of a lot cheaper in Austin than just about any other large city where a top law school is located.Grad_Student wrote:Because it costs too damn much to live in Austin.brittanyfowler wrote:Really? Still, I'm going to be eating a lot of rice and beans for the next 3 years.

I saw on LSN that you checked out UT on spring break. What were some of the highlights?

The law school was beautiful. The library is huge, and the mock courtroom was amazing. The classrooms were standard but still very, very nice. I met with Dean Matoya - the Dean of Career Services - he was very helpful and very nice. The law school is right on the outskirts of the main UT campus... probably about 200 yards away from the football stadium. There are some nice places to eat (and drink) around the school as well. One place has world famous burgers, and I can attest to their greatness.
Austin is an incredible city. I have been to several major cities in the U.S. (NYC, Boston, DC), but Austin is by far the coolest. The bar scene on 6th street is awesome. There are so many different places to eat. Lake Travis is beautiful. I have nothing but good things to say about the city.
Any other questions, feel free to message me or post them on here. HOOK EM HORNS

I kinda think that now that ASD is over and most people have received their acceptances and made their choice, everyone is spending the last 4 months of freedom relaxing instead of chattering on the forums

Nah, I'm still making my decision between UT and Mich.
Can anyone talk about the strength of con law and various programs for litigation (classes, extracurriculars, etc.)? Also, could anyone talk about public interest opportunities available after graduation (ie. how many people at UT interested in doing public interest work get the type of job they're looking for and does UT compete well with other top law schools for prestigious PI work such as ACLU or public defenders)?

True, but living in central Austin (i.e. close to the campus/law school) is relatively expensive if you're used to Texas housing costs.Esc wrote:Just remember that it is a hell of a lot cheaper in Austin than just about any other large city where a top law school is located.Grad_Student wrote:Because it costs too damn much to live in Austin.brittanyfowler wrote:Really? Hey, put me down for class of 2012. Definitely looking forward to moving to Austin and starting classes in August--how long will that last, I wonder?

UT's con law program is supposed to be excellent, with some damn good people, and the Dean hizzelf, a con law scholar, said at ASD that he was going to start teaching a class again.semperfi1860 wrote:Nah, I'm still making my decision between UT and Mich.

As far as PI, from what I gathered, it appears that the options are indeed available and similar to similarly ranked schools, and the administration is heavily pushing for more graduates to go into PI work. Only a small number of UT grads go into PI, but that seems to be because of self-selection, not from lack of options.

Not that I know of. I sure as hell hope not. I'm poor, and am happily dreaming of the day when my stafford loans are disbursed and I can peacefully live on a fixed income

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
