Re: NYU 2012
welp, Ive just decided Ill be attending NYU this fall so hi everybody. In doing so im turning down a scholly of 22,500 a year from Michigan. I mention this fully expecting to get some sharp reprimands from the flock of loyal michigan kids on here, but i am happy with my decision. Besides, NYU is giving me a scholly of 15,000 a year, otherwise I wouldve gone to michigan no contest, and the choice was still tough. And if I can help to clear up some questions posed earlier in this thread, my NYU scholarship is a deans scholly, unrelated to any of the named ones that require separate apps. These deans schollys are awarded on a mixture of need and merit. I got my offer on March 25th and the deadline for me to accept it is April 14th. I imagine that when that deadline passes, the money which some people decide to turn down will be offered to different people.
Anyway, I am excited as hell to be going to NYU.

for those of us that got ZILCH from NYU, do you think they make us another offer after the first acceptance deadline passes? I was at least hoping for something to numb the sting of outrageous nyc cost of living

I really, really hope so. I was accepted just a few days ago so they're still looking over my stuff, but damn NYC is expensive.

It's really not as bad as everyone makes it seems. Sure, dorming might be a little more than some of the other law schools, but keep in mind that everyone else here is getting along just fine. I'm on a full debt load, planning on doing full LRAP, and I am really, sincerely not worried about cost of living. Congrats to you guys and just enjoy yourselves when you are here. It will all be worth it, whether you spend a marginal extra few bucks here versus what you would spend at some other law school in XYZ city.

Still waiting on my financial aid stuff from NYU. Doubt I;ll get anything(parents do pretty well but aren't gonna pay for all of law school for me), but not sure what I will do if I don't as I'm not a citizen and don't have a US co-signer for loans.

Re: NYU 2012
I thought that was weird as well. You could always wire me the money and I'll pay it for you. OR, you could call them about it. I'd go with #2. Good luck!asaunde2 wrote:Thanks man.aguyingeorgia wrote:Welcome!!!asaunde2 wrote:welp, Ive just decided Ill be attending NYU this fall so hi everybody. The more and more restless I get in my current location the more I want to move up ASAP so I'll probably be there! Where are you living that you'll be moving in to? I'm thinking of moving up and doing the weekly summer rate at the NYU housing while I look for an apartment, I've found quite a few affordable studios in the area that seem comparable to living in Mercer, so I hope the market is good in mid-June.aguyingeorgia wrote:ALSO, who is moving to NY early this summer?

Did anyone who went to an ASW find that financial aid presentation on the website like they said it would be? I need to prove to my parents that I will able to afford this without having to live in a box.

by box I mean a literal box... under a bridge... in queens, it's a little "my life has gone to shit" metaphor I like to use regularly. I am completely ok with living in a shitty little box-sized room, as long as the walls are not actually cardboard.

Oh, I know what kind of box you mean. But I was hoping for less of a commute than Queens, like maybe a box in Nolita... maybe I'm already living beyond my means

Yeah, I remember seeing it. I think they might have it on their Financial Aid site where you filled out the institutional aid form.elisecolette wrote:Did anyone who went to an ASW find that financial aid presentation on the website like they said it would be? Sent in my deposit!!!!
How long did it take to get your NYU email and ID#? The website says 10 days, but just wondering how accurate that turned out to be for others.

Re: NYU 2012
Hey guys! I haven't posted in a while, but I'm still alive and still planning on starting at NYU this fall.
I was planning on going to tomorrow's ASW and had my flight booked for tonight...as it turns out, my flight was canceled, the only other flight available today is leaving in an hour, and the flights tomorrow will all make me semi-late for the first events. I'm kind of ready to just stay put, since I've already sent in my deposit.
So I was kind of wondering how everyone feels about the importance of ASWs. For those of you guys who went, would you say that it was really informative and helpful? Was it fun?
Thanks!

The ASW was cool, but I wouldn't say that its something that you really, really need to/should attend. It doesn't seem as amazing as ASWs at other schools (based on reading threads on this forum).Sobriquet wrote:Hey guys! Re: NYU 2012
not if you dont mind giving up 450 bucks.
On the other hand, it does have to come with the Intent to Enroll form, where you have to sign that you are withdrawing from all other schools, so that might be a bit tough to get around.
