Arrived this afternoon. Registered for the fake class. Did a little shopping for move in essentials and took the dog to the dog park. All in all a great day. The only downer, our moving truck called and he's broken down in Utah. Hopefully it'll be a quick fix!

Okay everyone. Sorry for the delay in information. I just moved in finally to Oakland. Spent the last few days with in-laws in Sacramento because my wife was sick. So the Boalt 1L Potluck will be this coming Sunday Aug 9 at 4pm at my apartment in Lake Merritt.

My wife and I will be putting some plates together, but we would love it if those attending could bring drinks or a small dish/finger food. There is parking on the streets behind the apartment. There is also a bart station at Lake Merritt that is probably a 1/2 mile walk.

A few questions about the tuition bill:
When will the law grant be deducted from my cars bill?
I just got a cars bill of 24,076.25 and obviously the law grant was not deducted.
Do I pay the full price and get the money back later?
By the way, I've never been able to view my grant offer letter. It's never available.
Could someone share his/her experience?

I called the financial aid office today.
The lady told me that the law grant will be applied on the 9th.

....AND I also wanted to take some pics of campus for my family before tons of students descend upon campus. The less people I look like a total weirdo in front of, the better.

I'm a 2L. I was supposed to move in with another 2L this year but I just found out my gf is returning from study abroad early so I can't.

My friend is now looking for a roommate. He's a chill guy and has a cat. The place is $1250 with two parking spaces on bonita and cedar. Hardwood floors, next door to andronico's (an expensive supermarket). A block way from safeway (a less expensive supermarket).

I need to turn in some VA forms at the Registrar in Sproul Hall today.

That's the main reason I'm in too. Just went by and there are more forms to fill out (not to mention he needed copies of things I had faxed twice before.

Anyone know if we need to get cars "inspected" out here, or if the smog test is the only thing needed? The 76 station on 7th and University did my smog check for only $50....with free retake if the car fails. It's the cheapest I've found so far!

For those doing VA stuff, I'm a little late to the game and just submitted my online app for the new GI BILL (converting remaining chapter 30 to 33). Do you guys know what the turn around time is for processing? Any insight is appreciated.

Not quite the same process as you, but I applied to have my father's benefits transferred to me at the beginning of July and received approval from the AF last week. Since then, the VA has told us it could take up to six additional weeks for them to approve our application.

There was a snag originally with the new Chap 33 benefits because the state of California refers to tuition as "fees." The VA was operating under the assumption that there was no tuition, and that it therefore didn't have to pay out the full benefits under Chap 33 (if I am doing a bad job of explaining this, someone else can feel free to chime in). As of this week, the issue has been resolved and the freeze on filing new claims and certifying students has ended.

You will have to see Michael Cooper in Sproul Hall at the Registrar's office with your VA forms and your DD214. He will then give you about 3 -4 more forms to fill out, including one that must be signed by Candi Gester at the law school's finaid office.

He said he is putting my claim in today or tomorrow, and the turnaround time should be relatively soon!!! I wasn't given an exact date....but that seems to be the norm on campus. Hope this helps some.

hey IzziesGal, you need just the smog test for the DMV stuff -- I just got my plates today, and all I did was the smog check. Definitely, definitely, definitely make an appointment. It will save you literally hours of waiting around. Good luck, I almost got into a fistfight at the DMV today :/ Something about that environment breeds hostility. See you all on Thursday

Only it's not Candi. I went and saw her today (after Michael sent me there) and that's Registrar business, not FinAid. Nancy at the Registrar's office said we wouldn't get them signed until we register on Thursday(otherwise, we run the risk of being certified for only 6 hours for "Law 205"-- rather than the 15-16 we'll really be taking).
