Hey everyone. Long time lurker here. I just got into Ithaca Monday and wanted to see if I could join the CH party on Thurs. Looking forward to meeting all of you when classes start.

Hi guys. Another long-time lurker here. (It seems we come out of the woodwork when drinks are involved!) I just moved into my place this week and would love to join the group for happy hour.

I need to feed the kids, so also won't be there until at least 6:30 or 7. If you guys start too early, you'll be incoherent by the time us FWR (folks with responsibilities) get there .

ETA: Does anyone know the smoking laws in NY, particularly for bars like the Chapter House? I'm not a prohibitionist, just asthmatic, so overly smoky places are tough to take.

Smoking is prohibited inside NY bars, although I think there are some exceptions for cigar bars (some sort of enclosed rooms or something)...

Don't worry. All the smokers have to go outside.

ok, so, since I have already sealed my fate as class airhead, I am going to ask: how do we access the Blackboard or maybe I should be asking where do we access it?

also, since I haven't been on the boards for the past few days, I have no idea what has happened.. I was in Ithaca from the 10th to this morning..
my apartment was.. (and not in the good way.)
I think i got most of it cleaned up and relatively livable, but, yikes.. renting without seeing the place first FTL.
oh well.. no parties at my house until i make it all homey and cozy.. although, it's pretty spacious, so, if it ever gets homey and cozy, then a lot of us would fit in there!

and I totally know what you mean. I saw my apartment before I signed the lease, but even after the landlord's "cleaning crew" went through the place... well, it's not. The undergrads here REALLY destroy the places they live in

If I were ever to move again (the rent on this place is low) I'd live somewhere like bellayre where they only rent to faculty and gradstudents.

That being said, I think there is still an apartment in my building (cheap (for collegetown)) and a "block" away from the commons. If anyone is interested, PM me.

mine too! a few days ago it was the worst place i had ever seen. completely inhabitable. but after 4 days of blood, sweat and tears from my parents and myself it's now decent. lesson: never sign a lease without first seeing the place! i think, panda, that we might have the same landlord... good luck fixing the place up!

maybe we do.. but my landlord was actually really understanding. I told him all the problems I had (not with the dirt, but with the bugs, doors that don't close, etc..) and he just said that he would come in on Monday and make sure they were fixed before I come on the 19th. I dont know how much he will actually get done or how well, but it was nice that he didn't try to ignore me or anything.
I did go through 2 bottle of all purpose cleaner over the three days i was there.. And im still not finished.

I'm going to be getting into Ithaca tomorrow, but probably won't be free/settled until Sunday. I'll be up for something soon though.

i will be soooo stressed trying to clean up my new apartment, that a break will be much needed..
