Re: UVA Class of 2012
Hey guys!
Count me in as a member. I went to UVA undergrad (class of 2008), so if you'll be my friend I'll show you around Charlottesville in August. My last year there I really got out and explored the area and found some awesome restaurants and stuff off the beaten path. I'm originally from King George, VA (smallest county in the state!) and moved to Richmond when I was a teenager and went to high school there. I live/work in northern Virginia now, so I'm a pretty hard-core Virginia expert.
I just submitted my application for an apartment at Ivy earlier today. I thought it was kind of weird having to submit the security deposit with the application, so hopefully I won't get ripped off.
Let me know if you have any questions about C-ville or Richmond or whatever. I'm looking forward to meeting some new people and returning to Charlottesville.

Count me in too! I just finished my last school visit, and I've decided that UVA is where it's at!
Is anyone not living in Ivy or on Arlington? I've been looking a little further out that those but I don't want to be the only student away from everything.

I'm definitely not living at Ivy. I've heard terrible things about it from two friends of mine who are already UVA law students. One of them lives there now and is desperate to get out.

really? would you mind sharing their stories. I wish I had a better idea of where to live. But being in the west coast, its hard for me to locate an apartment and find a roommate. I just thought i'd live at the ivy cause all the other 1Ls do.

Hmm, that's what I had been thinking. Ivy just doesn't seem that great to me...

Re: UVA Class of 2012
Sure! They haven't said anything too specific, just that it's old and not very nice...and that it's really bare bones, both physically and rent-wise. (I think there are hardly any utilities included in the rent? I'm not sure since I haven't been researching it myself.) Some posters on here have checked them out and disagree, but I don't know.
If you really want to be within walking distance of the school, you could look into Arlington Court, Huntington Village, and Arlington Townhouses. (There are others too, their names are just escaping me at the moment.) They're not as close as Ivy I think, but you can definitely walk from them.
At first I thought I really wanted to be within walking distance, but then I widened my search a bit. Now I'm considering anything within about a 3 mile radius, cuz I don't think I'll mind a short drive that would require about the same amount of time as walking anyway. If you're open to driving, there are lots more options
All in all, if you care about living somewhere nice, I wouldn't live in Ivy just because lots of other 1Ls do. I have a suspicion that many of them (us) don't know any better, haha. Good luck!

How about the Arlington Court Apts? They're even closer than Jeffersonian yet still available. The ads I've seen do not show the interior so I'm half-assuming them to be crappy.

I'll be living in an Arlington Court condo next year and it didn't look that bad. Simple, but not bad. Basically a living room and a kitchen on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second plus a basement.geoffree wrote:How about the Arlington Court Apts? I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think that the Arlington Court apartments might be managed individually (i.e. they either are or are managed like condos). Like, I'm looking into one that my contact person says he had "recently completely renovated", and I'm pretty sure he's only talking about that apartment and not a building-wide renovation.

Wouldn't surprise me if they were full now, though.

Yeah, they are individual. For instance, the one I'm getting is almost completely carpeted while another has wood floors (nicer-looking but noisier).omg wrote:I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think that the Arlington Court apartments might be managed individually (i.e. they either are or are managed like condos). Good to know. I'm still seeing a few ads so it appears that ArlingtonApts are not filled yet. I'd better get shakin.

Do it! You'll have great neighbors. It seems like most of the TLSers of c/o 2012 are living on Arlington rather than in Ivy.geoffree wrote:Good to know. I'm still seeing a few ads so it appears that ArlingtonApts are not filled yet. I'd better get shakin.

I'm not living at either of those. I decided to go with more amenities instead of convenience, and I'll be living at The Woodlands which is about a 7 minute drive to campus.MaebyTonight wrote:Count me in too! I just finished my last school visit, and I've decided that UVA is where it's at!

There are lots of very nice options away from campus, Jefferson Ridge, The Woodlands, Carraige Hill, to name a few.

According to Google Maps, The Woodlands is an 11.1 mile, 18 minute drive away from campus...
