Re: Chicago Class of 2012
Yeah, around here it's around the same price for an apartment in Harlem, surrounded by housing projects, with a glorious view of an elevated subway train that goes rumbling by outside your window every 3-20 minutes, 24 hours a day. No security system, no package acceptance, no repairs, no one who speaks f*ing English. Oh and a 5-6 floor walk-up.
Yeah, I'll take Regents. I can't wait.

Has anyone looked at apartment complexes near Regents? For instance, Hyde Park Tower Apartments? It looks like there are several buildings in that area that may have similar or even cheaper prices. And you could still be near where all the law school students are living. Just curious if anyone has investigated this, since some people think that Regents is overpriced.

i called hyde park tower. if you live with a roommate, it's a great deal; they have 2br as low as $1298. i think you still pay utilities and internet, etc on top of that, but it's still cheaper than regent's. their cheapest 1br however is $1219.

A Google search says really really bad things about all the buildings owned by MAC, which is a lot of them.

MAC is horribly rude and consistently negligent, FYI.pehaigllleises wrote:A Google search says really really bad things about all the buildings owned by MAC, which is a lot of them.
Regents isn't worth what it costs. Look at privately buildings a little further from the heart of campus and the law school (but not TOO far...), such as around 57th and Drexel or around the 53rd street businesses. There are some absolutely beautiful hidden apartments in those areas where you will pay much less than you would in Regents or HP towers. Also, I don't know from personal experience, but I hear the Windermere by the museums is pretty nice, and I think the rooms are larger than they are in Regents, plus there are walk-in closets.

Just sent in my response form!pehaigllleises wrote:Where are you all from?
Are you still in undergrad? Or whatcha been doing?
Summer plans?
Other pertinent or non relevant info?
1. Seattle
2. Graduated USC in '05, been working as an engineer in Seattle ever since
3. Keep working...need more money
4. I'm looking for a roommate to split a Regents 2-bedroom if anyone's interested.
Does anyone know if the May 31 deadline for law school rates at Regents means you have to move in by then or just set something up for September?

Just set something up for later. You need to apply before May 31.

Yeah, they would probably lose a lot of first year law students if they made you pay for the month of June.

The thing about regents that's attractive though is the sense of community, I guess?

So yeah, I am about 90% sure that I will be going to Chicago in the fall! Yay for the end of this long process! And yay for having a nice, long summer and then moving to Chicago. Are you guys moving in to Regents and the other places like September 1st? Is Regents going to fill up soon or something? I was not planning on signing a lease quite yet. I do know about that May 31st deadline for the discount.

I know it's kind of a long shot, but is anyone else doing the SEO corporate law program in NYC this summer? I just found out I was accepted and am hoping I might have a few fellow UofCers for company.

I think you only need to send a check if you're accepting a scholarship award. Otherwise it's on the honor system. Apparently people who got scholarships don't have honor.

Re: Chicago Class of 2012
Hey, does anyone know what the tuition for the 2009-10 year is going to be? I emailed the office of the bursar and they never responded and all the info on the website is 2008-09. It makes it difficult to figure out loan amounts without that info...

Re: Chicago Class of 2012
Gahh I really need some advice with regard to housing. Regents seems so expensive, and I'm not sure whatever added social benefit I'd get from being there would make it worth the steep price (well over $1,000 per month, and I'm not even clear on whether or not the listed price covers utilities).
I'm looking at Blackstone Villa, if anyone has any experience with that (or has heard anything). It's like $800/month for a studio apartment, which is more than $200/mo cheaper than Regents. It's not very far away from campus, and it includes all utilities in that price.
Basically I'm going through all university-owned apartments and seeing if they look decent.
Any and all advice is appreciated.
(also, if any like-minded cheapskate wants a roommate, and is a male non-smoker and non-sociopath, I could probably use one)

Re: Chicago Class of 2012
Just sent in my deposit a few days ago! Excited!!
Now the search for a roommate begins... a couple of things I'd like:
1. female
2. chill
3. neat and clean (very important!)
4. interested in a gym membership ($100 per lease, so it comes out to $50 bucks a month per person)
Hehe, I think I'm pretty chill and easy to get along with. Message me if interested
